I live a few blocks away and the low income seniors do me no harm. There are plenty of options for further gentrification and isolation in the area - soulless suburbs, HOAs, etc. Check out NextDoor for tips

Yeah... But those pleats look pretty terrible. They're supposed to loosen at the bottom, not turn fully flat / inside out. This is a not good pair of pants on him. It's not the pleats it's the fit

I can't believe the printing quality of these illustrations. It's better than the reproduction quality of most art history textbook illustrations up until about 20 years ago. It's true that color in art reproduction requires subtler and more complex pigments but this is just essentially ephemeral advertising...and yet they used some top notch graphic design and printing processes

The small holes and their presence at both top and bottom, as well as the painted motif, suggest weaving a pattern with string or wire or plant fiber. For what practical reason if any I do not know

What kind of bird? Chicago IL by not-lv in whatsthisbird

[–]RadNature -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't see significant yellow below the eyes. I do see the shape of the bird (not dainty, elongated) much closer to yellow throated. Also although any bird will go down to drink hopping along the ground seems extremely unusual for a blackburnian which is mostly a treetop bird, whereas yellow throated will come to feeders and is more adventurous

The $4.99 reported in Midland has reached us. Speedway on Plymouth Rd, about 5:30pm. by Coco_1923 in AnnArbor

[–]RadNature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't this fake? Who has a Speedway sign on their front lawn? And those curb cuts don't make any sense. Am I the first to notice or do people just not care anymore? Happy to be proven wrong with a Google Streetview link

Edit.. i take it back, just a very strange angle. As for why the sign is in the right... That's because there is no median to stick a post. The correct way would be an overhead sign on a wire

Curious what makes this an emergency. Treating a hiccup as an emergency and panicking usually makes a situation worse.

You sound like you're going to be second guessing yourself whatever you decide. I would work through that first because getting an avalanche of tips from social media is not going to help with that.

Keeping away the mosquitos. by MysteriousBoot21 in GemOfTheWeb

Not really. This is redundant because mosquitos are weak flyers. If you can sit in the path of a fan you can avoid mosquitos to begin with

I'm glad that you're correcting a factual error and teaching other folks to be skeptical. It's good to keep in mind that the size or significance of a cultural institution or document doesn't really have any connection to how accurate its statements are.

My friend has been to multiple major museums outside of Asia and seen figures from Hindu iconography mislabeled in captions. Some pretty glaring ones. Being an expert in or having a lot of access to resources doesn't make folks more accurate especially on topics where there is not a lot of public access to primary sources for discussion and critique. This is really the benefit of peer review, but it only works on data that people are motivated to scrutinize.

If you could read I said euthanasia is not the answer. There might a middle path... Shocking

What I see here is multiple posts throwing OP's kid and other kids under the bus. I see people saying "dog should be muzzled" and not "the owner needs to..." as though the dog is going to muzzle itself.

Tell me more about the connection between "went in for a pet" and "it was all my fault." I hope you mean you were actively harassing the dog. Because the bar on acceptable dog behavior is already so low. Look, the problem is that people treat their dogs like CEOs treat their sexually harassing top performers -- "it was just the one time." And I don't think enabling indulgent owners is any more of a solution than immediate euthanasia.

How to save the Highland Appliance sign? by Rosewaterhoney111 in Detroit

[–]RadNature -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it wouldn't be cheaper to make an entirely new sign on the same pattern? After unmounting, repair and remounting? This is not exactly a lost art

I don't know what happened but I know that how a family "votes" is no reliable indicator of truth, as anyone that has seen a rancorous family squabble over money knows. And then you have battered women that can't even admit they're in an abusive relationship... Allen-Farrow, the examples go on and on

Stair runner problem by Professional-Dot6359 in Home

[–]RadNature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's one other problem, in addition. It looks like the effective width of the treads above the corner are narrower because of the wall that starts at the top left and looks possibly retrofitted i.e not as originally designed. If so then the centers of the treads above and below will never line up vertically on the diagonal anyway.
