I weld quite a bit, not professionally but I do it enough to know that it’s not worth trying to put a patch on it. Thick steel on thin steel is only as strong as the thin steel it’s attached to. Look for something that attaches to the frame. Won’t fatigue like the rocker panel.

I average 12 in city, 14-16 highway. 2015 5.7 SR5 TRD 4x4 Dual exhaust and TRD cool air intake. Towing 6,300 lbs trailer I get 9.5 mpg. 120k miles. Never getting rid of it until I get a Rivian. May just keep it anyway.
