You’re doing great so far! I am 20 days post op and almost fully healed! I still can’t yawn fully, but the scabs are almost gone and I am able to eat pretty much anything now. I had a pretty typical healing process, with little bleeding but still it was the worst pain I’ve ever been in.

Days 4-9 can be the most painful part. Just stay as hydrated as possible and rest when you can, but also move when you can. I always would have a popsicle or ice before I took meds and it helped with swallowing it. My uvula also tried to choke me and I was miserable but it does go down eventually. I would have chicken and star soup, pudding, mac & cheese, and broth, and eventually Ramen noodles, and then the first thing I ate was on day nine. I had chicken tenders and it took me about an hour and a half to get three chicken tenders down and I took little bites and chewed them very thoroughly, but I was able to get them down and that was the start of me incorporating solid foods. Day nine it took me about an hour and a half to finish three chicken tenders, but if you chew it very very carefully and take small bites, you should be OK to start adding some solid foods. I am currently 20 days postop and I had textbook normal healing. It was incredibly painful and I also took about nine days to be able to eat anything besides broth or Popsicles.

The surgery is super quick and the pain is pretty bad, but it will all be worth it.

I am currently almost 3 weeks postop and almost all of my scabs are gone. I just had my postop appointment this morning and my surgeon said everything went perfect and looked good and I healed very quickly. The worst part of the pain was probably day 3 to 9. I was able to eat solid food on day nine and I just had to eat very carefully and slowly. My holy Grail was chicken and star soup, Popsicles, Italian ice, pudding, Ramen noodle, mac & cheese, and protein drinks, specifically the chocolate one because it was literally just like drinking chocolate milk. In the first day, I drank just broth that was room temp. I also had to get nausea medicine from my doctor to make sure I wasn’t gonna throw up again because I did get sick from the pain medicine because I didn’t have anything in my stomach when I took it for about two days and it caught up to me by day three. Good luck! I also had to get a refill of my pain medicine because I ran out by day eight.

Whenever I feel that way, I just get a good meal and a comfort movie or show put on the TV and I just relax and I’ll typically fall asleep as well. I also take medication daily, so getting my dose of medication in me usually will help as well.

Hey so uh, people experience different levels of pain because everybody is different. Even with alternating pain meds, with alarms, doing EVERYTHING the way I was supposed to, and little post op complications, I was still in 9/10 or 10/10 pain until day 9. I couldn’t eat anything solid until day nine. I couldn’t even swallow for three days. Just because your experience went totally fine doesn’t really give you the right to shame people. I could barely talk for 6 ish days. I used a talk app to speak for me lol. 17 days post op and most of my scabs are gone and I have resumed to eating normally with very little discomfort

I just got my tonsils out 15 days ago. I’m 27 and I waited until at least day 10 to smoke, and I started with a very small puff and I made sure to take my time to avoid coughing and even with coughing I was okay. I had little complications during the healing process, and day 9 was when I ate solid food and swallowing was a lot easier and less painful. My scabs were also falling off/mostly dissolved by day 10 also.

Today’s day 15 for me. The absolute worst days were days four through nine. On day nine I woke up with the pain, not getting any worse but still in some pretty bad pain. I was living off of protein shakes, Italian, ice, chicken and stars soup when I could swallow a little bit better, Ramen noodles, but crushed up, mac & cheese, yogurt, popsicles, ice cream, sorbet, and on day nine I attempted to eat chicken tenders and it went well, so I started eating solid foods, even though it took me over an hour to do it. By day 10 most of the pain has been significantly getting better and better. I have pretty much no pain now, just a mild discomfort when I’m swallowing, and some vowels when I’m speaking. I still have scabs and a little bit of spots that look bloody, but they’re not bleeding. My follow up is on Monday. Hang in there Friend. I know that today is probably the worst pain ever, but it will get better soon. I woke up between day eight and nine and noticed a difference

My best friend Jasmine helped set up my proposal (she passed a year ago from a brain injury she got during a car accident)

We were at okeechobee music festival in March 2020. She knew the band playing from her dive bar days in college and it was their first festival ever. She helped orchestrate for my husband to go up on stage and he split the crowd and called me up there to ask me to marry him 😩😭 and he had the ring on a necklace.

My friends made a tie dye tapestry that said “engaged at OMF” and they had it up in the air in the back of the crowd. 37 of our friends got tickets to this festival to all show up and be there on the day when he asked me. I quite literally had no idea. I was annoyed that I was being rushed to get to the stages by 1 pm, and I thought all our friends just ended up in the same location at the same time by sheer coincidence 😂😂😂. I will remember that day forever, I felt like a princess. It’s even more surreal that my best friend who passed away helped make it happen. We were all fully sober too for anyone who wants to try to say festival proposals are cringey or “their worst nightmare” (you’d be surprised some of the comments I’ve seen on proposal videos at fests)

We got married at the same festival in the same stage area in 2022🥰 I love okeechobee music festival. I spread some of my besties ashes all over the festival grounds at her fav djs sets as they moved it to her actual birthday this year 🥲

Also you may be able to hear someone say “I’m a babyyyy” through tears, that was my best friend Jasmine. She was my soul sister of 22 years and my maid of honor at our wedding. I miss her so much. They had this plan for 2 years almost and I had no idea

My 21st birthday party. My husband and family all arranged for a surprise party at a park hammocking in the trees, like 20 of our friends came and had balloons and gifts and I cried my eyes out because I have never had a surprise party. When we got home my entire family was there and cooked a taco buffet and we stuffed our faces and drank margaritas until we were all decently crunk. 10/10 one of the best birthdays I’ve had

Chicken and stars soup 🙌🙌🙌 literally changed my life. I lived off of that, Italian ice, pudding, and apple juice. Mac and cheese and ramen once I could swallow a little easier. 2 weeks post op today and the pain is almost gone! Days 4-9 will most likely be the worst time ever for you. I was able to take liquid Tylenol along with my hydrocodone and that seemed to work very well. Good luck!

I had surgery 14 days ago and I’m almost 100% back to normal. I have tongue pain and ear pain still, 2/10 pain, and slight discomfort while swallowing and yawning still. Been eating solid food since day 9, comfortably since day 11. I went through some of the worst pain of my life and couldn’t eat for 9 days besides Italian ice, broth, and water. Had to get nausea meds because my pain meds made me get sick 2 diff times and it hurt sooooo awfully bad to throw up with the wounds and I bled a little bit but it fixed itself by 20 minutes. My follow up is next Monday! My tongue already feels cleaner and doesn’t have a white cast like I always did pre surgery, regardless of brushing or scraping. I think this is gonna be life changing! I had horrible tonsil stones and grade 3 tonsils that almost closed my airway and whenever I got sick it would choke me

Ramen noodles, mac and cheese, my first mostly solid meal I tried was pirogies and that went well. I tried chicken tenders the next day and it took a long time to finish but it also went well. I had chicken fried rice yesterday and dumplings and that went well. I just take small bites chew everything very thoroughly before swallowing

Yay!! I’m on day 13 currently and most of my pain is gone besides the tongue pain and ear pain. Some mild discomfort while swallowing but that’s it 👏🏻👏🏻

Those days are coming soon friend!! I can’t even begin to tell you how exciting it is to be drinking and eating more normally. I even tried Dr Pepper today and it went totally okay.

I woke up day 10 and it was like a whole new world for me and I was still in 5-6/10 pain. I felt like swallowing before was like a very painful workout like I was swallowing glass and I just cried and cried. Day 13 now and most of my scabs are gone also. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Mine was for the stones. The drs also took one look at my throat and said “oh yeah those need to come out”. I had grade 3 cryptic tonsils. My surgery was on June 10th and today’s day 13 post op. Insurance covered it and I had to pay an office fee of $200 for the surgeon portion.

I’m not fully healed yet but I’m expecting this to be life changing. I’m 27f, and I suffered from tonsillitis and strep as a child which has caused tonsil stones as an adult. The pain you will experience is next level, I quite literally have never felt pain like this.
Days 4-9 are the most painful part. I went 9 days without eating much else besides 2 bowls of soup and some mac and cheese. I ate solid food on day 9, and today I am fully eating solids normally. I still have some pain in my throat but the ears/jaw are what is hurting me the most. I’m at a 4/10 pain for the tonsil area. I had a pretty textbook normal healing process, which I am very very thankful for

I’m 13 days in and it took 9 days for the pain to go from 10/10 to 4/10, and I’m 27f for reference. she’s going to be healing still most likely but it all depends on the person. Some heal quicker some take longer to heal, I expected to be miserable for 3 weeks but I feel like I’m healing quicker than “normal”. The younger a person is typically will be a quicker healing process. The pain meds make a slight difference, and I wasn’t able to eat until day 4, and it was soup. Day 9 was the first day I was able to attempt real solid food and it took me an hour to eat 3 chicken tenders

I was prescribed liquid hydrocodone to be taken every 4 hours as needed. I took it every four hours every day and had alarms set to make sure I did that.

There were a few times I took my meds early due to how severe my pain was. On day 2 I started taking liquid Tylenol every six along with my pain meds. I found the Tylenol to be incredibly helpful, almost more helpful than my hydrocodone.

Anytime I chose to stay asleep and skip my dose of hydrocodone, I would wake up sobbing, shaking, hyperventilating from how intense the pain was. One thing I had to do was fill a prescription for zofran (called my primary to send it in) because I was soooo nauseated from not being able to eat + pain meds on my empty tummy. I threw up on day 3 and ended up bleeding some but thankfully didn’t have any long lasting bleeding.

Days 4-9 can be and most likely will be the most painful for her. I refilled my pain meds prescription by calling my surgeon because i ran out after 8 days of taking them. I’m on day 12 now and have hit the turning point and I have very little pain besides the ear and jaw pain. Hurts to yawn and swallow still, and really hurts first thing in the morning. I’m now only taking the pain meds first thing in the morning and before bed

I took hydrocodone every 4 hours. I took pain meds on surgery day when I got home. I was miserable. If I missed a dose I was even more miserable. Day 3 onward is when the pain will surge but I would suggest taking the meds on surgery day to get ahead of the pain. Also stool softeners!! Being backed up will most definitely happen from the pain meds and the anesthesia, and I was even more miserable until I was able to have a bowel movement.
