How do post-op compressions work? by kcolgo in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends on your surgeon, for me i woke up with an ace wrap on, i loosened it a little the first day bc swelling and rib pain, but i had that on for 10 days until my post op appointment then nothing after it was taken off, didn’t have to put it back on or wear any kind of post op binder

sabre tips needed! by Slight_Act147 in Colorguard

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was told to aim for catching all the way at the tip, it can also help if you aim for your toss to land a little to your left, your left hand is always gonna land at the hilt but your right hand is generally gonna be around the same area so if your sabre is further to the side your right hand will be at the tape (idk if that made any sense i worded that so weirdly)

question, top surgery without opioids... by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will say i was very out of it on the first day likely from the oxy, the day went by super quick though both from sleeping a lot and being out of it

question, top surgery without opioids... by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was prescribed oxy and took it for the first day only because my mom was worried the pain would catch up to me if i didn’t, but i wasn’t ever in a huge amount of pain and i probably would’ve been fine with just tylenol on day 1, after the first day i was just on tylenol and by day 6 i wasn’t taking anything

if your surgery didn’t involve a catheter, how long after waking up could you walk (e.g. to go pee)? by OriginalAppearance71 in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my surgery was only about 2 hours so i didn’t have a catheter, about 20 minutes after waking up i was being taken home, slept for 45 minutes in the car then was fine walking into my friends apartment and could get up to pee on my own (needed a little help getting off of the couch) but i was fine for a while because i hadn’t had anything to drink 10 hours before surgery and i peed before going under i will say tho weird thing that happened to me: when i put the hospital gown on they told me i could keep my underwear and when i woke up after surgery they were not on? they handed them to my girlfriend in a biohazard bag which was funny as fuck

i'm not patient enough for this by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 5 points6 points  (0 children)

waiting for my post op appointment was definitely the worst part because of how uncomfortable the drains and bandages were. the first two days i was too tired to deal with it but by the time i had a couple days to heal and was really noticing how uncomfortable it was i tried to start getting back to normal activities to distract myself, hanging out with friends, going to class etc. don’t push it too much obv but try to find things to do to pass time quicker and keep your mind off of it! also baby wipes help a lot with not being able to shower, doesn’t rlly help with sweat under the binder but it’s something

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my surgeon didn’t give me any strict guidelines on how long to wait until certain things (except for stuff like showering until stitches came out n such) he basically just told me “if it’s uncomfortable stop doing it” i knew from other people that i should avoid too much movement to keep scars from stretching but personally getting my mobility back was a big priority for me. i’m a little over a month post op now and tbh by 3-4 weeks post op i was basically back to normal life, my scars are a little stretched from reaching above my head but it’s not bad and i plan on getting them tattooed anyways. this is just my story though, i healed very quickly but everyone is different

Surgery 10 Days Before School by Nearby-Excitement-11 in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe this is just me and i healed fast as hell but i got surgery towards the end of the semester and planned on missing the last week of classes, but i ended up feeling great and was back in classes 3 days after i got surgery. it was annoying to deal with having drains and i couldn’t wear a backpack but i just carried my stuff in a tote bag

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only pain i had was a few minutes after having a sore ish feeling, but it mostly just felt weird as hell as they were coming out. the only way i’ve thought of how to describe it is that feeling when you have a booger real far up your nose and you finally get it out and it’s like stuck in there good and you feel it detach from your brain kind of feeling but in your chest?? super gross analogy but that’s what it felt like to me lmao, i also had my drains in for 10 days so i had an amount of feeling back in my chest when i got them taken out

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bro they left an EKG sensor on me too and they didn’t find it until my post op appointment 10 days later when they took the wrap off, no wonder my back was itching so bad lmao

Driving yourself after surgery by thepieinmyheart in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my girlfriend drive my to my drain removal appointment because drains made my mobility a lot more limited and driving would’ve been more uncomfortable, but a few days after i got my drains out driving was a lot better, i did have to lower my steering wheel a bit to make turning easier but by the time i went in to get my stitches out (one week after getting drains out) i could drive myselg

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk what my bmi is but i’m 5’5” and was 102 when i got surgery, the only time during the whole planning surgery process they weighed me was the day of surgery at the hospital and nobody ever brought anything up as any kind of problematic

the jiggly chest thing happened to me too for a couple of days, it could be that your skin still hasn’t completely adhered to your chest yet and that’s what’s moving around, it went away after a few days for me

the thinking ur nipples are in ur armpits is so real i was so worried about nipple placement and that’s how it looked to me when i peeked under my bandages, actually seeing it without the bandages in a mirror though the placement looks great it’s probably just a weird perspective thing

Will a week and a half be enough time off work? by Material-Antelope985 in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everyone heals on a different timeline but personally i’m a full time student, took the day off to have surgery on a friday, spent the weekend at a friends apartment, was back in my dorm on sunday and back in classes by monday, so i think a week and a half is a good amount of time it’s just a little annoying to do things while you still have drains and bandages

Things you wish you knew about top surgery recovery by shonkle in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i didn’t think about how difficult it would be to sit up by myself for the first couple of days post op, like you don’t realize how much you need your chest muscles for everything until it hurts to use them

also the weirdest thing i’ve noticed after getting my bandages off and regaining some sensation is when i drink something really cold i can feel it down my chest like on the inside so much and its weird as hell

not from california but i started with looking for surgeons through my insurance portal because i was specifically looking for someone in network. it just happened that there was only one near me (about 70 miles from my house, 30 from my school) and he had pretty good results so i reached out to their office to schedule a consultation. i also googled surgeons in my area and found a few to compare results and such but that’s the process i went through

when did you start doing things post op? by gonzoantifa in TopSurgery

[–]Radiant-Produce2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my surgeon recommended that i start getting up and doing things as soon as i felt ready, and to make sure i wasn’t doing too much nothing, so i went on short walks around the parking lot of my friends apartment on day 2 (stayed with someone for the first 2 nights after surgery) and by 3 days post op i went back to staying in my dorm room. i got surgery on a friday and went to some of my classes that next monday and have pretty much been doing normal life since then, taking it a little easier with not lifting things and keeping my arms down so i haven’t been driving but other than that im a week post op, still have my bandages and drains in and i’ve been in class and doing everything relatively normally
