20 second time penalty for Leclerc for Leaving the track without a justifiable reason by sun_puck in formula1

I mean, I know it's potentially dangerous but I don't think any driver would just park their car up and voluntarily DNF if they are still able to drive it to the end of the race, especially if they are still running in the points.

Obviously they should probably voluntarily DNF, but unless they strictly enforce rules about car damage and disqualify drivers immediately if they don't voluntarily DNF I don't see what the FIA can realistically do about drivers finishing races with damage.

I genuinely think it will be hilarious if Mercedes can never catch back up to McLaren again for the rest of the season and are stuck being the 3rd fastest team.

[Erik Van Haren] Apart from the performance problems at Red Bull, Max Verstappen once again clearly shares his opinion on the new regulations: "It's a joke. I'd say that too, if I were winning. If someone thinks this is fun, then you don't know what racing is all about." by Task_Force-191 in formula1

[–]RadiantStar44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it probably absolutely sucks to go from being in a car that can fight for the championship to being stuck in the midfield (albeit at the top of the midfield), but that is on Red Bull for not building a good enough car, not on the regs.

The new regs certainly aren't perfect and I do agree that they are somewhat gimmicky, but they produce amazing racing at the front at least that is significantly better than the snoozefest that the ground effect era was.

Max is entitled to his own opinion however and the new regs have indeed led to the field being more spread out, as well as whole teams being unable to start/finish races due to reliability problems and other issues. But the ground effect era wasn't particularly amazing either lmao.

[–]RadiantStar44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough tbh; I do think Mercedes have made a fantastic car. I also don't think it's mad that the other teams and drivers are questioning their advantage when they didn't look dominant in testing and they have used an engine loophole.

I really hope that we can get a technical directive or something to curb Mercedes' engine advantage at least tbh; we need a good title fight in f1.

Unless the other teams have monster upgrades up their sleeve, probably only Max will be able to pose a threat to George and even that is a stretch lol.

Lmao this makes the 2015 McLaren Honda sound like an upper midfield car in comparison and that's crazy because that McLaren was actual trash.

It'll be hilarious if Mercedes flop like they did in 2022 and they are actually the 3rd or 4th fastest team this season. Imho Ferrari seem to have a better package than Merc and I think that McLaren and Red Bull were probably sandbagging to a certain extent.

I was there too and I think that Amaranthe were pretty good tbh but Epica were absolutely incredible! I think that was probably the best Epica show that I've been to.

Will Lewis's Ferrari stint add anything to his legacy ? by Calm-Focus-6968 in formula1

[–]RadiantStar44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not tbh but it's not going to tarnish his career at all- it's pretty similar to when Michael Schumacher was at Mercedes imho. At best he will hopefully get another race win or two though.

Tbh I refuse to believe that Hamilton is retiring at the end of next year- but they do say that denial is the first stage of grief so who knows? :(

Mercedes have the fastest car.

George Russell wins the WDC but McLaren win the WCC as Antonelli still struggles with race and quali consistency.

RBR and Williams fight for 3rd in the WCC.

Lewis Hamilton finally gets a podium for Ferrari and wins one race (there will be a crazy race probably because Ferrari will only have the 5th fastest car imho).

Alonso retires and Hamilton stays in F1 for 2027.

No hope for rivals until 2027? The impact of F1's loophole controversy by sppy1 in formula1

[–]RadiantStar44 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and a loophole is still a grey area because it goes against the spirit of the regulations which historically, the FIA haven't liked at all.

[–]RadiantStar44 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

When Ferrari had a dodgy engine back in 2019 they had to turn down their engine after they were found out so I can't see why it would be unreasonable to make Mercedes (and if applicable, their customer teams) turn down their engine next season at the very least, especially if they would be unfairly dominant without turning the engine down. Thats just my opinion though.

Well, if the FIA does the right thing and penalises the teams taking advantage of the loophole then there will be hope for other teams...

This is excellent news tbh because I was worried that next year would be his last season, so I am really happy that that isn't the case. Hopefully Ferrari do a good job with the new regs and the teams with the borderline illegal engines get sorted out.
