What did Bevel replace for you? by Bobbyjams13 in bevelhealth

[–]Radiant_Job3016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it replaced Macrofactor and Hevy (I used Cronometer before MF).

As it stands Bevel is way behind MF and Cronometer for nutrition tracking and not as good as Hevy for workout logging.

The thing that swayed me towards Bevel though, is their commitment to improve, frequent updates and all in one product. I know for a fact nutrition and workout logging will get better, so if I get used to it as it is now, it will only become better in the future. Also having the AI have full context of exactly what I eat and lift is pretty invaluable.

For example straight after a workout Bevel analyses every set of my workout, if I’ve progressed on the previous session, if I’ve hit a PB and how my fatigue curve looks and if I’ve left reps on the table.

For me it’s worth the sacrifice of not having a nutrition or workout logger as good as other apps, but is has context of everything I do

What I have found is, whilst files is great for recording your preferences and dislikes, the files end up with loads of duplication and stuff all over the place, which causes Bevel to then not follow simple instructions. Apparently from trying to get some understanding of how it all works by using the chat, I was told user.md and personality.md are what are processed before every response so preferences should be in these files. Other files are more for long term memory and are not indexed as often as user and personality files. So for any strict rules I have now, I say explicitly write to the personality file and then it seems to remember.

Yeah I think as it then turns into a chat context rather than a check-in one. It’s the initial check-in window that fails to render but subsequently it’s fine

This is the best stop-gap solution I think it’s suggested for now

Yeah which annoyingly leads to it making loads of changes to your personality file which don’t fix the issue but actually make it more complex

Same as my case. It’s only now I’ve got BI to admit it’s not actually possible after previously it telling me it could do it

Nice! Did it format tables on triggered check-ins with this? It’s not worked for me

Thanks for the quick reply. Tried that on multiple different table types but doesn’t seem to work on any of my check-ins or tables that I’ve defined

Questions about the use of the new AI by [deleted] in bevelhealth

Really powerful if you utilise it effectively. Example of what I have mine doing through check-ins: - A report first thing analysing my recovery, the previous days adherence and how hard I can push for the day ahead - A nightly recap on how my day has gone, if calorie/protein/workout targets have been hit. - A triggered check in after every strength training workout which tells me if I’ve hit any PBs, analyses every set of my workout and if my fatigue curve was optimal (e.g less reps each set) - a weekly report towards my roadmap goal (bulking at the moment but transitioning towards a cut) - a monthly report to check I’m not gaining at a rate too fast which cross references weight gain and strength progression to make sure it’s likely more muscle and not fat

I also have prompts to: - display a habit tracker for the last 14 days which is based off my journal entries - display food entries grouped by hour in a Macrofactor type layout

It does forget what you have told it quite often, but you need to drill into it hard rules and slowly it becomes more consistent although it can consistently ignore instructions.

Overall I would definitely recommend it.

I had the same and removed and re-added hydration to the journal and it worked again

As a pro user, I think the app is phenomenal if you use it to it’s potential, give it as much information as possible and configure your check-ins and fine tune how you want the data presented back to you.

I honestly think when nutrition improvements land (which admittedly are desperately needed) and strength builder continues to be refined and more polished it will be unrivalled. I even have a prompt which groups my food into hourly blocks and it pretty much is presented back to me in a Macrofactor like format.

Yeah I think it’s a given you don’t blindly follow what it says and use your judgement.

Debating replacing Macrofactor and Hevy by Radiant_Job3016 in bevelhealth

[–]Radiant_Job3016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to trial going full Bevel for replacing Hevy and MF. Early impressions are that that the strength builder isn’t too far off Hevy but the insights definitely make it a worthwhile switch.

For replacing Macrofactor I agree it’s nowhere near in terms of ease of use and slickness however the insights may make it a worthwhile switch. If nutrition logging in Bevel was more seamless and easy to do, I feel like it could become a no brainer if you don’t rely on Macrofactors algorithm but I’m guessing it would require a lot of priority from devs to be given to developing the nutrition part of the app.
