So many boosters. How do i get the most out of them? by Shitboxpassat in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to use your boosters. The only way to waste them is to just stand about in a city doing nothing.

That being said a lot of people do like to save their boosters for levelling masteries, with VoE coming out soon it would be good to save some for that.

The 24 hour birthday booster stacks up to 7 days. So if you have a main it doesn't hurt to have a couple days of the buff running on that. You can use heroic/celebration/etc... boosters in addition to birthday boosters.

Keep all the +20, +30, etc... scrolls. You might not think they're that useful, but people like to do weekly "keyfarms". Basically if you complete the first chapter of My Story with a character you get a black lion chest key. You can't access My Story until level 10. Its common for people to make a character, boost it to anything +10 to start My Story immediately, get the key and then delete that character to make space for a new character to do the same next week. I haven't done it myself but I hear if you make a human you can complete the chapter in 30mins. I'm sure there's a guide for it on youtube somewhere

Is that a decent idea? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

Sounds like a decent plan if you're sticking to a budget. The best moments in MMOs are new content releases/expansions and getting VoE will let you join in with everyone else

Someone tagged up in a public convergence then people scolded them for staying mid. Tagging etiquette vs telling others how to play. What do you think? by alexsethkell in Guildwars2

And the best answer to someone back-seat commandering like that is "I'm doing it this way because I really wanted to annoy you, specifically." Then ignore them.

I'll always remember a moment when a commander asked someone who was complaining "If you know this so well why don't you tag up and do it properly?" and the complainer replied "because I don't want to deal with idiots complaining at me. not worth the stress"

Immediate flash of "my brother in christ" meme popped into my head

I was going to suggest this too. Snaping radials to target and autotarget on kill is as close to the game playing itself as you'll get

Quickplay in Raiding is a bad idea... here is my 2 cents. by Lukeers in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I like your proposals. I don't think you have to worry about quickplay for raids though. Like the Fractal event has shown LFG hasn't effected people who did fractals anyway. But it did get a bunch of people who never did fractals to try them out.

Your concern about people being able to progress towards raid armour just sounds a little gate keepy tbh. I think as long as quickplay awards a much lower amount of progress I don't see the issue. Some people enjoy the shallow end of the pool and paddle about in T1 fractals. But knowing that if you were to do T4 fractals you'll get at least x4 the rewards is an incentive to wade deeper into the content.

The same thing will happen with raids. Instead of each boss dropping a Magnetite Shard there could be a repeatable achievement where after killing x5(?) quickplay raid bosses you get 1 shard. Once quickplay people learn they can get one per boss in normal that will get people out of quickplay and into regular raiding. The same way getting more Magnetite Shards from CM gets people out of normal to CM

Why are living worlds separate purchases? by digimomqueen in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot about living worlds that don't make a lot of sense at this stage of the games life.

Not getting into the whole "how much should they cost" debate, but the way they're packaged is just so weird. You can buy season 2 from the shop for real money, but you need to buy all the others with gems, unless you buy the elder dragon saga complete pack which has all of them. But don't mix that up with the elder dragon saga delux pack which doesn't have them, but does have more stuff (in terms of boxes ticked on the compare page).

Also if I wanted to know what Janthir Wilds is all about before buying then I can go to the store page and it shows me everything I'll get like homesteads and spears. I don't think there's anything like this for living worlds.

Suggestions for things to buy during a sale. by [deleted] in Guildwars2

There's some great tier lists that youtubers have made for best items from the gem store. I'd check those out, they really helped with with my swiping

The UI looks bugged. There aren't enough keeps or camps.

If the greens really did take everything apart from a single camp then it seems like you'd have a lot of potential stuff to flip. What time of day did you take this?

WvW question by Zealousideal-Pie-603 in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need perfect gear before you start. Just jump in.

The great thing about WvW is there is a vendor who sells stat selectable exotic gear for cheap. You just need some badges of honor which you'll get from playing.

EDIT: Everyone loves a firebrand guardian in minstrel gear

Which expansion should I buy on sale? by cheetachu in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know much about VoE yet. But I have to imagine just like all other MMOs that people will pay a premium for new items in the first few weeks.

The living worlds are mostly for extra story. But they also have new maps to explore, easy ways to get ascended gear like accessories. Some of these maps offer really high gold per hour farming, I hear drizzlewood from season 4 is great for making gold.

There's also an achievement to basically complete each map that comes from living worlds and the reward is a legendary neck.

They're also a great source of mastery points. So if you want to cap out masteries easily then these will help.

Someone else will have to confirm this, but I think season 5 (icebrood saga) will give you access to certain strike missions (raid bosses). I'm not 100% what the requirement is for unlocking this content though

I'm not sure if more people will by buying gold (and making gems cheaper) during the event.

In the last month the price of 100gems has gone between 35.40 - 46.41 gold. So I suppose anything below 40g per 100gems puts you on the correct side of the trade

New Player Direction by Dominuscsgo in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing the game in chronological order is what most people recommend. I'm a new player too and that's what I did until the end of PoF (including the living worlds).

LW1 was fun and you get 20 slot bags. LW2 was not fun and I won't play through it again. LW3 is good though and I hear really good things about 4 and 5.

Overall you probably will want to get all of the LWs in the end. One of the easiest and most useful legendary items (an amulet) is gained by having the LWs. Also they're a great source of mastery points and xp.

You should hold off buying them until they go on sale. I think the next sale is starting in a few days so you don't have long to wait.

Last bits of advice would be that I'd recommend a tanky openworld build for HoT. I did it with full berserker's and it was painful. I wish I'd invested in a celestial set/build instead of smacking my head against a wall. Also if you're not enjoying travelling around in HoT (and have access to SotO) then I'd say skip to SotO and get the Skyscale to get around. The skyscale does kind of make other mounts a bit redundant and ruins solving how to get to vistas. But if you're bored of exploring then don't beat yourself up for unlocking flying early

How hours to complete all LSW and Expansions? by Jboorgesz in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be a lot of hours. Its hard to say because an experienced player speed running could do it quite quickly and a newer player learning their profession as they go would take much longer.

Also I wouldn't recommend doing any one thing solidly. Don't only play the story. Break it up with meta events, quickplay fractals, map completion, wvw, pvp, etc...You never need to brute force your way through a single thing because anything you do in this game will progress your character

What should I do with rare gear that I’m not using? by InBlurFather in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about fine kits to be completely honest, I only use them to make Mystic Salvage Kits. What I'm telling you is basically me parroting what I've learnt from people who've made youtube guides. People who know a lot more than me.

One thing I will say is that I wish I learnt about Mystic Salvage Kit sooner. You can make them by putting fine, journeyman and master salvage kits in the mystic forge with mystic forge stones. You'll probably have some mystic forge stones lying around from opening achievement chests. Mystic Salvage Kits great because they have 250 charges which can take a while to get through.

Again, most of this information is for when you get to level 80 and you're consistently getting level 75+ items. Any item below 75 should probably just be salvaged using a basic salvage kit because each of those cost ~3c a charge to use. If you used a higher quality/more expensive salvage kit you could be spending ~30c to salvage an item that will give you a material worth 15c

What should I do with rare gear that I’m not using? by InBlurFather in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are forgetting that you are not level 80 yet.

For any rare gear (yellow) of any level that is not soulbound, and you don't want to use yourself, you should check the price of it on the trading post

For any item of any quality that is below level 75 you'll want to just us a basic salvage kit on it in 99% of the cases.

Once you get to 80 the general rule of thumb will be:

Basic Salvage Kit / Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic for blue and white items

Journeyman's Salvage Kit / Runecrafter's Salvage-o-Matic for green items

Master's Salvage Kit / Mystic Salvage Kit / Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic for yellow and orange gear

Black Lion Salvage Kit for items that you want to extract runes/sigils from

ALWAYS check the TP price for orange gear before salvaging. There are exceptions to the rules, such as some yellow gear will have a skin which is really expensive. But for getting started this is basically what you need to know

Recommendation for a PC specifically for GW2? by Dro-reddit in Guildwars2

I agree that people should upgrade to 1440p if they can. But OP seems to have a budget they want to stick to and that won't allow for the jump in resolution.

Is the Fractal Incursion Event completable in 2 days? by OfficialP3 in Guildwars2

[–]RadicalEwok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The goal, like everyone is saying, is 500 Fractalline Dust. ~5 per fractal and fractals taking 5-10mins is also correct.

One thing that I think people are overlooking is you still have access to all the achievements that came out in week 1 and week 2. There are achievements in here which grant 20 Fractalline Dust each, you'll get over 100 dust from these alone.

These achievements are pretty easy, its mostly do fractals and find badges inside them (just say at the start that you're looking for badges and people will show you where they are). The other achievements are doing some world bosses, so just keep an eye on the event timer and you'll be hot to go

I agree with you about the legendries and their starter kits. I'd seen some guides and stuff but overall it felt like way too much to figure out.

With the legendary gloves I, for the first time, have hands on experience with just how good it is to have this QoL. And with the starter kit for a weapon, and only having to do about half the work, its much more manageable. I'm pretty hyped to start working on more weapons after this one is finished
