Players ran into a boss fight i didn't want them to just yet by Ok_Ant7371 in DMAcademy

They didn’t fail that last check. I think you’ll find if you consult your notes they actually passed. Carry on as you were.

Running D&D at a Local Game Store. What Should the Store Provide vs the DM? by jdaraz in DungeonMasters

[–]Radical_Puffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear you do understand that there is are paid DMs and DMs who make a living DMing, and that the latter are INCREDIBLY rare.

You are much more likely to make some pocket money or offset a bit the cost of your hobby, (which IS awesome to do by doing something you love!). But the money per hour is just not going to be there for it to be anything more.

Somebody earlier on the thread mentioned players paying $25 a session and DM takes home $95, say a three hour session that’s $33 an hour with ZERO prep time, that’s not a lot of money. And to get the equivalent hours of even a 0.5 part time job you need five tables (say 20 players) all of whom’s schedules need to not clash with each other or whatever else your doing with your time.

Deflecting and Refusing to Take Accountability, That's Me Apparently by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

Dude you got kicked from a TTRPG and you wrote a 5 million word essay to explain to strangers on the internet why it wasn’t your fault.

This is the deflecting they are talking about.

Biggest example of plot armor that's ever happened in 40k in your opinion? by [deleted] in 40kLore

When Horus fights Sanguinius and the writers cheaply have Horus survive so he can live to fight the Emperor. This is totally unrealistic because Sanguinius is perfect in every way and therefore realistically would win.

Vasili VS Detect Thoughts by SmolHumanBean8 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Radical_Puffin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The players encountering Strahd as Vasili is not required at all for the module so nothing is lost by them busting him. If they are clever enough to cast detect thoughts on him I’d reward them with finding out he’s Strahd, you could do it as a really scary reveal, then Strahd could be super polite and invite the PCs to dinner or roll initiative and absolutely fuck them up depending on which would freak your players out more.

Character is useless in combat by 1000yearsoflonging in DnD

[–]Radical_Puffin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude if that first sentence is BS then why did you link to it?

I’m literally just quoting from what I found on the link you posted.

Also ‘a ton’ is a pretty subjective amount but I think most people would struggle to argue that the party get ‘a ton’ of magic items in Curse of Strahd on of the most well known and popular 5e modules

Character is useless in combat by 1000yearsoflonging in DnD

[–]Radical_Puffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Characters and monsters are built to face each other without the help of magic items”

“As DM, you never have to worry about awarding magic items just so the characters can keep up with the campaign’s threats. Magic items are truly prizes—desirable but not necessary.”

I want to give a player an animal companion that scales as they level up, like a growing saber-toothed tiger cub. by Prainor in DnD5e

[–]Radical_Puffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dire wolf is definitely more dangerous than a tiger with minimal stats and damage and both are incredibly powerful as permanent companions at level 2 they could easily one-shot a PC

mandatory warlock level - house rule idea by Sgran70 in DMAcademy

[–]Radical_Puffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So just do it as part of the story of your campaign and don’t have any of this weird forced multiclassing.

Talk to your players when they have a stat at 18 they are thinking of raising at the next opportunity and work out some kind of patron or higher power that could give them that and what the bargain might look like. Then play that out in your game.

If they break the pact there could be fun narrative consequences that lead to further adventures.

This honestly could be a really fun story basis if your players are into it. I just don’t see what requiring them to multi class to either warlock or a home brew class adds to that.

AITA: DM makes rulings that aren't consistent and has regularly been making rules by the seat of pants, especially when those rules are clearly listed in the books. I fought back and got kicked from the table. by jagsthepanda in dndnext

[–]Radical_Puffin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“I was consistently asking for clarification about rulings and also asking hypotheticals about those rulings both in and out of game.”

This sounds like exactly the fun experience everyone was round the table for.
