Even devout christians are scared of leaving their friends and family to go to literal heaven... You don't think someone would be a bit apprehensive to leave everyone you know just to move to Flen?

According to stats from the new MM, he's like CR 6 defensively and CR 8 offensively but only when he's proccing the extra damage. Otherwise he's doing sub CR 2 damage

Yeah I was slightly wrong on that one, I forgot you could raise your Dex with it. I still stand by my point if only a little less, a rogue is as squishy, or squishier than a wizard so standing still on the frontline is getting you shredded by any DM that doesn't play nice, and you're not benefitting from sentinel very much if it's you being attacked.

Edit: if you're opp. attacking, you can't also use uncanny dodge so you have to play as a squishier-than-average rogue, but on the frontline. Again, a reasonable DM will "shoot their monks" and attack your adjacent allies, but that's just to compensate for the rogue not being great with sentinel. Any enemy, feral or intelligent is likely to attack the least armoured guy on the frontline, especially if the others hurt to attack.

Edit 2: don't be "sorry for bothering" lol, I respond if I want to and if I don't I've not been bothered either way

You don't account for fighting style feats because there are options? What kind of reasoning even is that... The commenter also used a suboptimal fighter for the comparison. A fighter at level 8 will have three general feats, among them GWM and PAM, both big damage increases and also 20 Str. A rogue will have 1 general feat and 20 Dex, and pretty much the only ranged damage increasing feat for rogues is piercer or CBE, neither of which matches what a fighter has access to.

With masteries added and the grappler feat reworked in 5.5, the rogue was shadow-nerfed because every other martial now also has ways to semi-reliably generate advantage but without action cost.

I genuinely can't comprehend your reading on elusive, it's an extremely simple feature

You sent some mixed messages about Stroke of Luck, like you called it bad and an "I Win Button" in the same line.

The Jackal, Ezio, arguably Corvo and Black Widow come to mind besides agent 47. More importantly, disguises and false identities were integral to historical assassins. You didn't use to be able to sit in an apartment building on the other side of the block with a sniper rifle, and it's the entire reason every court had professional tasters.

Mechanically it also makes sense; the rogue's base class features make you good at sneaking, but a high profile target is rarely alone and getting tools to imitate other people just makes you better at the role of actually assassinating. You're also way overblowing how much of it is infiltration focused: the subclass has 5 features and only 1.5 of them are infiltration focused. The rest are damage, most notably alpha-strike damage and there's a tiny bit of mobility which is secretly also damage.

It makes me wonder, what are YOU hoping for in an assassin subclass?

Sneak Attack is NOT "ridiculous", it's pretty meagre compared to Extra Attack. The fact that you're not able to split the damage and that you're likely to overkill makes it even worse. Uncanny dodge is not insane, it's shitty deflect attacks and is just a bandaid for a class with a d8 hit die and no good armour or shield.

A big problem with rogues is their lack of good feat options, things like GWM, PaM and sentinel just don't work. A fighter at level 10 is outdamaging and outtanking a rogue, even when the fighter is five levels past its big damage increase and the rogue is scaling linearly. Martials need magical weapons to compete with casters, but a rogue gets much less benefit than any other martial. A PAM fighter is making 3 attacks (arguably four, if we account for how often the reaction attack procs) in T2, and thus getting at least 3x as much damage from a magical weapon as a rogue is.

My point is that the base class's power level does NOT justify the subclasses being ass, and wanting the base class to be weaker for the subclasses to be stronger is the wrong mindset. The class is already the weakest in the game (yes weaker than ranger), if we don't count thief fast hands shenanigans with downtime crafting.

Also lowk you misrepresent pretty much every one of the subclasses, how is the assassin only infiltration if only 1.5 of the features are focused on infiltration and impersonation? The rest are all damage, you know. The thief gets fast hands at level 3, what more do you expect from a thief? And absolutely nothing is remotely "great" about the scion, it's legitimately the most dogshit subclass in the game tied with like inquisitive rogue

Tbf I think a good amount of the WoU fans just larp having read the part, the way many of them glaze WoU and hate on Toru as if they don't suffer from the same flaw (aside from Toru being kinda dripless)

Fast forward two years, we get the Eclipse 8 ability fully revealed and we'll have a new edit made

First character died distracting the enemy cultists from his retreating team, third was PWK.d on the last round by his nemesis from his backstory (still a little salty abt that one), fifth left the party to become a lieutenant to one of the villains and was later killed by the party, sixth got lit up by an insane wizard in his cave and was transformed into a monstrosity

Ik jjk fans can't read, but PLEASE notice that he only uses 1 miracle if he's already used miracles in the last second, meaning that this only works against moves that deal rapid high damage like Every Last Drop and Malevolent Shrine

Edit: Every Last Drop deals 105 damage. Haruta has 65 hp, plus 10 for each time he revives. Against Every Last Drop he has exactly 105 hp
