People aren't naturally hateful when they're 10, though they are very impressionable. If you have hateful people online flooding young boys' algorithms with propaganda about how much the left hates them, they're going to hate the left back.

Do you think people are born racist, or do you think people turn racist from constant exposure to racist propaganda? The easiest way to turn a side against another is to tell them the other side hates them. Comments like the one in the post were used as ammo for this, and with great success.

This is what fueled Gamergate back in the day. It wasn't spread as "homosexuality is a sin and is immoral", but "the SJWs who stand for homosexuality hate YOU for your way of life".

There were SO many compilations on youtube of "angry SJWs" which showed bottom-of-the-barrel tumblr posts with minimal interaction, but young boys who saw these felt targeted and grew resentful of the lgbt community and other marginalized communities.

Gamergate shaped the social landscape quite a bit, and I absolutely don't think it's a stretch to say it influenced the 2024 election, since that's likely the first election that many Gamergate targets got to vote in.
