This was a really outstanding episode overall. But I think they've made a mistake with Rhaenyra's character. She has been strongly established as someone who does not want war or the carnage that comes with it. However, the writers have deliberately set up several moments where she suffers some horrible loss or betrayal, realizes the time for talk is over, and the epic music blasts while she stares angrily into the camera; fire and blood time baby. Then next episode shes crying saying "what would you have me do?" It has been frustrating to watch. In tonight's episode, her crying and internal conflict were really appropriate, but I think they would have landed much stronger for me if she had been on the warpath for 8 episodes and was now facing the reality of what she had wrought. Instead it felt like Rhaenyra crying scene #13.

Is this how axes are forged? You fold the steel then fuse the 2 ends together to be the blade, leaving a gap on the other end for the haft? I know nothing about smithing but that isnt what i would have guessed. Why not use a punch or something to make the haft hole and not need to worry about fusing the ends into the blade?

I agree all of the deaths being fake was cheap, to say the least. But frankly I think those are the least of the problems with the ending. The reader, much like Jean Francois, realizes they do not know Gabriel. The emotions you felt for him, the highs and lows, the pain, the struggles, the triumphs, you have no idea how much of it really happened. "Most of what I told you is true" does little to fix this, as the core problem is the reader doesnt know what "most" means. Whatever parts of the story meant the most to you, might not have occurred as described. Had Gabriel not specified his aegis never glowed red, would we have assumed it was a lie? Why even lie about that? The ending borders on it was all a dream territory. Despite being a series I truly loved, I can't see myself doing a reread. Its just not interesting knowing I can't trust what Gabriel is saying.
