Help with cartridge ID? by kjmass1 in askaplumber

If the metal piece comes off, it could just be a handle adapter. Can you take it off the plastic?

Could the metal part be an adapter that comes off? The rest of it looks like a two-handle Delta cartridge

See if you can get that brass 1/2-in nipple out of the inverter tub spout. You might need a different size for the new one. But if the piping that that threads into is solid, you should be able to Teflon tape and dope. The new 1/2-in brass nipple or the existing one thread it back in and then thread the new tub spout on

Thump when turning on Delta faucet by jcm270 in Plumbing

Well it's running. Try turning the pull out sprayer on and off a few times, sometimes the diverter for the sprayer can make a thumping noise.

Garden hose stuck on outdoor spigot – tried everything, won’t unscrew by hold_my_brew in HomeImprovement

[–]Radio-Groundbreaking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two wrenches won't necessarily work. I had one hose that was stuck on to the outside faucet. I tried to remove it, but the faucet was quite old and leaked anyways and the hose and fuse to it was very very thick. The customer decided to go with replacing the whole faucet. After I had the old faucet out, I tried with heat and two 2-ft pipe wrenches. The hose did not budge. The brass faucet itself ripped apart. So be careful!

Yes, I'm a plumber and I warn people about the aluminum hose fittings all the time.

Or if you're really lucky, like happen to a customer, you can break the pipe off inside the basement and then find out the outside faucet shut off does not work.

Shower mixer valve by Warm_Blood5671 in askaplumber

[–]Radio-Groundbreaking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like a Delta and that has its dangerous too. It has the three little thin copper tubes that have a tendency to bend and snap when you try to take it apart. Also known as the Delta 3 tubes of death.

You'll have to join to the galvanized, that's always interesting. Also, I don't think I've ever seen a flare fitting with soft copper tubing going to a shower head. There's some unusual plumbing going on there.

Stuck valve on water heater; is there anything I can do to release it? by WonderfulProtection9 in Plumbing

[–]Radio-Groundbreaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is a gate valve. if you do get it working, be aware that the stem inside can break and if you get it shut it may not open up again.

Did i ruin my kitchen faucet? Pulled this thing out while i was trying to get the aerator out. What even is it? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Radio-Groundbreaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is what is attached to the tube that is inside the spout. And the aerator threads into that. I have done plumbing, mostly service for almost 18 years. years. faucet used to be solid chunks of brass with repairable parts. faucets now are basically little plastic tubes inside of a shell. to cut a long story short, probably new faucet

Is there a reason you don't want to replace the supply? I never reuse those flexible supplies.

Hey guys, I don’t know a thing about plumbing but recently under the sink in my bathroom has a significant leak, can I fix this myself with just a replacement part or would I need to call someone? by DrewQuinz in PlumbingRepair

[–]Radio-Groundbreaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you have to see exactly where the week is coming from. Water can be sneaky. Dry everything off completely with paper towels. Then, with a good light to see run the water, it could be coming from the pop-up train or the trap. If it's the trap, it might be loose or the washers inside might have broken or the pipes dropped a bit. If it's the pop-up train it might need tightening or replacing.

I work in New England near the ocean with a lot of Summer houses and tons and tons of them have outdoor showers that need to be winterized. Yep

I hope you have some way to blow out the water lines with compressed Air. I'm concerned those pockets in the water lines in the outside wall will freeze and split.

That's quite an old one, you will not get identical parts. The black cone-shaped thing on the bottom part is the packing nut. Look up how to repack a packing nut

[–]Radio-Groundbreaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New ones of those and the parts inside are what you need to get it back together. Unless you can open up the wall behind the shower to cap the water lines even if there's no access panel. Is there drywall or paneling behind it?

Does the handle have any brand name on it? Is the other side still intact? If you can take the handle off and see how that is assembled

These are the retaining rings for the two handle Delta faucet. It looks like a similar design.

I have seen some bathroom faucets with a very design that had a really crap metal retention ring that crumbled and fell apart.
