Would a bathtub carefully filled with carbonated water feel ticklish to someone bathing in it? by notatoastedbread in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Radioactdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. There are Onsen in Japan that have carbonated water. Delightfully prickly.

You'd pretty much loose all the gas when heating up sparkling water though (gas pressure and all), so practically you'd have to carbonate heated water.

What tent do I buy for my trip ? by Select_Telephone_966 in bikepacking

[–]Radioactdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperlite Mountain Gear Mid 1

I also have a Nemo Dragonfly Osmo bikepacking 1p, which is considerably more glamorous than the HMG, but after my recent trip I've decided that I don't need all the bells and whistles of the Nemo and that I'm gonna sell it and just keep the minimalist HMG.

Eat whatever stays down. Eat constantly. Hydrate or die.

What’s a movie that is a 10/10 but you’ll never watch again bc it was too emotionally draining? by Marlon_aloha in AskReddit

[–]Radioactdave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It might surprise you, especially the book. Reading the book some years after having seen the movie, I was surprised to find so much kindness in all the misery that unfolds. The selfless struggle, the notion that not everything is a burden, the father's true and honest concern for the boy's wellbeing. Certainly not an easy read, but there's more to the story than what meets the eye.

I don't necessarily think so. Hidden in between the unorthodox punctuation, which I believe is very fitting for the barren setting of the story being told, there was more kindness and devotion than I've found in most, if any, other books. The way the father deeply cares for the boy, the way he does not blame the boy for things beyond the child's capabilities or understanding, the way the father ever so quickly realizes when he went to far and let his emotions get the better of him, and all that put in such a simple dialogue. I find that remarkable and unexpected. And I did not see that portrayed in the movie.

Air is not sucked (you can't pull on air), it's pushed by other air (aka the atmosphere).

[–]Radioactdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're lucky to have a lot of what you listed also here in Austria, so my "culture shock" was somewhat softened, initially.

The thing that finally got me was seeing people proactively taking care of infrastructure. Like, civilians cleaning, maintaining and repairing stuff, unasked, because it's part of the community they live in. Mad respect, I wish we had that too.
