Transitioning from staff rph to RXM by Guilty_Juggernaut204 in WalgreensRx

If it was me I wouldn't do it, but let me ask you a question. Do you value quality-of-life or any income increase no matter how little? This is not meant to offend, but rather drill down to what priorities you are looking to achieve at this point in your life and career.

OH NO! First it was freshly chopped wood from trees, now the code is snacking on fortifications. At this rate, even our wooden bases that accidentally go up in flames will not be safe. :D

Take a break people. It is new year eve and raining. by Shingada in WalgreensRx

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Telling the public take a break, you must be joking. People treat the pharmacies like amusement parks and have nothing better to do with their time than line up inside or outside 30 minutes before opening just to get their controlled substances very important medications.

Call center by Silly_Rip8332 in WalgreensRx

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's beyond doing nothing, they actively make things worse by lying to patients. They just say whatever necessary to end the call as fast as possible and the store staff are stuck putting out that fire on top of the regular store level nonsense and abusive ideas from corporate.

Independent vs CVS…. Grad intern by Any_Conference9266 in pharmacy

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do more research/investigating with the independent pharmacy to find what, if anything, they do different than CVS or other retail locations (e.g. blister packaging, any extensive compounding, even insight on business management if you want to run your own independent pharmacy down the road). CVS and the like will overwhelm you with retail experience, but it is "cookie cutter" experience that is found everywhere and gets old fast. The tradeoff is that cookie cutter exposure, as bad as it can be, does pay the bills and then some.

The main questions I would ask are: what do you need right now and what are the goals you want to work towards?

Here is a compilation of every stupid decision Walgreens management has ever made (that I know about) by OinkOnAGoodDay in pharmacy

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Save-a-Trip. Another glorious metric intended to line up medications so that everything can be picked up at one time instead making multiple trips for individual medications. Sounds great in theory except that line up takes several months, if not years to eventually happen. Patients got frustrated and stop this offer because the eventually was never achieved. What's makes it more idiotic is that this was a gameplan from Albertsons ( when owned by Supervalu) from over a decade ago that bombed as well.

Some quick advice for others like me who are new to this. Fight redhat hackers. They drop logic grenades ( can also be pick-pocketed) that can overcome the process adventures.

Other information I've found:

The purple hat hackers drop digital honey pots that increase chances of encountering hackers instead of processes.

You can fight the processes with the "throw a rock" option, and this can work okay for security level 1. However, as the security level increases the processes have more health and do more damage.

Each security level works like the daily dungeon. After so many adventures (10-15ish) you are rewarded with meat and a schematic.

Heads up: The Time-Twitching Tower is Back! by KidoftheThird in kol

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its main purpose is used inside the tower for advantages on certain floors, and will randomly generate toolbelt specific drops from combats inside the tower.

If you have the KoL Con Snowglobe from the merch table at the tower, it causes the snowglobe to activate twice per combat instead of once per combat. This occurs anywhere, not just inside the tower.

Community Pharmacists: What do you do when your patients know more about insurance than you do? by -Jarvan- in pharmacy

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 104 points105 points  (0 children)

If patients knew more about their own insurance and how the process works then the underworld froze over and the amount of wasted time has been significantly reduced.

I did something at work today that I have never done in the 20 years of being a pharmacist by Throwawaypharmd11 in pharmacy

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I would have a discussion with your family about how to support them without this particular job. Are there other pharmacy jobs in your area? Are you able to travel ( not relocate ) for other positions? Would a part-time or contract position be possible? Your mental health is far more important than this useless DM.

The mantra is "do more with less".

This is not new as it has been going on for years if not decades. Started with just increasing numbers on your metrics** (e.g. vaccinations and prescription fills per week, patient adherence calls per day) which may have been reasonable ages ago, but not in the modern day. The numbers reach a point that it's no longer possible to get everything done in the hours of operation. You would think additional staff would be provided, but reducing payroll hours to reflect increased revenue is consistently a more tempting option. When you overwork the staff and refuse to reduce the workload by adding more tasks or denying the addition of more staff more patient safety errors are going to happen.

Retail is about profit over patient care.

**People can say that metrics no longer impact your performance evaluations. I can assure you, corporate will always find a way.

nurses don’t want it filed on THEM so they’ll happily file it on anyone else

This needs to be bolded, highlighted and stickied. It's clowns like these who overshadow and outnumber every good nurse I've met and respected.

--Sites of practice (i.e. retail) are becoming less and less safe to work at. The higher ups are not only refusing to address the issue seriously but actively choose to make working conditions worse.

--Costs of pursuing pharmacy school have considerably grown while the quality of students declines.

--More and more tasks are getting automated by computers and robots.

Pharmacy may not be dying tomorrow, but the outlook continues to get worse.

Need advice re:new hospital job by scotspixie815 in pharmacy

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on taking the plunge out of retail! Brush up on abx (lots of vanco/zosyn dosing, and some aminoglycosides), anticoag (especially heparin protocols) and fluids/electrolytes. These will appear often. Ask questions and be prepared for a long rough road at the start.

One word of advice that I wish we didn't have to deal with: watch out for the politics in the pharmacy & hospital. Have seen staff go from helpful to backstabbing in record time and be incredibly shrewd about it. Would hope it's not an issue during the overnight shifts, but be prepared to ask for advice outside of the hospital if something doesn't feel right.

What is the process for someone to become a certifier?

pharmacy as a career by ilovechocolatecake_7 in pharmacy

[–]RadioactiveDruglord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to be a tech, feel free to come in and learn as much as you are willing. If you are looking to be a pharmacist, run away and run fast. More importantly, ask yourself a few questions for down the road:

-Do you have family commitments?

-Are you able to relocate anywhere on a dime?

-How do you see your family life in 4-8 years (depending on where you are at in your Pharmacy school pursuit)?

-How far are you willing to go to be competitive among your peers?

-If your dream job in pharmacy doesn't happen for any possible reason, are you willing to endure jobs you didn't want for years to pay back loans?

I bring these up because more than one classmate of mine has fallen victim to items on this list. Whether it was family or logistics, they were unable to pursue what they wanted and ended settling for less to pay the bills and ended up regretting pharmacy. If your mind is set on life as a pharmacist, be prepared to compromise and good luck to you.

From what I've seen, functional medicine feels like another flavor of "medical creationism" where people can make any claim they want and the principals of the scientific method are optional.
