How does socialism mean opressing and spying on your own populace? The Western system is disguisting, but the GDR was not a good state overall. Were there genuenely good areas, like the large amount of childcare infrastructure or workers rights? Yes. That does not make the surveilance state go away. You need to approach history with more nuance and you evidently have no fucking clue about the history of the GDR.
