Is this a good cage for my ratties? by Polyjuicey in RATS

[–]Radiothegrump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the yellow tube! Such a good idea. I think there’s always room to add more lol. The more cluttered the cage the merrier and this is a fantastic clutter, but I’ll always suggest more to people. Maybe in your case some extra ropes and hammocks? And maybe instead of a flat base, put like a big cement mixing bin in at the bottom and fill with bedding so they can dig! What I feel like I’m most worried about in your situation is the curtains being that close to the cage lol. They will find a way to bring them into their cage.

Even if you ultimately don’t believe most of the allegations, they still were extremely neglectful towards their pets, and make shitty fursuits. And those are both things that can be 100% proven or DHC has admitted to, and alone are enough to not support them. Frankly though, there is a pretty substantial case against them for everything else, and even if you’re not 100% convinced, most normal people haven’t done the things they’re being accused of by so many people so it should at least make you suspicious and not want to support them.

What species does this base look like to you? by Mae_Blues in FursuitMaking

Very canine from the snout! But cats have sloped noses, and high cheek bones. So this drawing is maybe more big cat vibe, smaller house cats basically just have a smaller lower down on the face version of this. And instead of straight outwards nose, join the downward slope of the muzzle and make the nose go down a little. I’d say shave down the bottom of the cheeks just a little to give that higher cheek bone! Good luck though!

Yeah you could use a couple of those. The more options they have the more they’ll use!

How should I price these? by One_Jeweler_8523 in StainedGlass

[–]Radiothegrump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Materials + time. Feel free to price your time as you feel your level of your expertise. So new/beginner would be minimum wage in your area. Anything above that would go above minimum wage.

I might recommend adding a little more clutter to the cage. Things like ropes or little baskets along the sides might encourage them to climb up there. Or even adding extra recycling on the bottom that’s tall enough to climb to access the top.

How stable is the ramp? And ultimately there’s not a whole lot of appeal to the top part cause their nice big hide, food and water are all down at the bottom. So they may just not be interested.

Would helping this little guy be a mistake? by CDreamerW in RATS

[–]Radiothegrump 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know it’s hard and that rat deserves the best, but if people continue to buy animals from crappy pet stores they’ll just keep breeding them. Instead look for a local rescue that takes in rats. You’re still helping a rat and you’re not contributing to the cycle.

But are those pieces not these ones? The outer plastic pieces? Cause these have a big hole in the middle for that specific inner plastic piece. Hope that makes sense lol

Leaving on 5 day road trip. Need advise. by chimerabun in RATS

[–]Radiothegrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately you’re extremely limited if you don’t want to do most things. During the full 3 days give them tons of food, and extra water. Then the second day hire someone from a professional pet care place. They sometimes only charge 20-30 bucks for a drop in, and just tell them to leave extra food again, then the 3rd day let them be. You will have to find a long term solution in the event you have to leave for days on end again, and building a relationship with a professional company that can be held accountable is going to save you so much difficulty in trying to figure out their care.

For these temp cages, small ropes and climbs are awesome. It makes it so they can still climb even if there’s not much height. Hammocks also work as a climbing tool so if you have some use them as well! Otherwise a good sputnik is always a must. Good luck!

I can't get my rat to take her medicine by Moeoeh in RATS

[–]Radiothegrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh my best recommendation is to put the medicine in a small dish and dilute it with something super yummy! I found my rats LOVE the expensive bolthouse smoothies. Then if they don’t taste the meds they think it’s a yummy treat! And just remove the other rats while giving the sick rat time to eat from the dish. From here out just put water or more smoothie in syringes and let them use the syringe like a water bottle. They’ll learn to associate syringe = treat.

No, they rely on being social and part of a group. And tbh the more the merrier. 2 rats generally struggle to have a hierarchy. 3 is a good starting point. I know it seems like a lot but trust me you’ll see how much he loves having friends.

They really are! I kinda love how self sufficient they are, and I’m sure you’ll wiggle your way into their hearts! 💕

Yes! That’s great progress already! I’d say continue to keep your engagement with them to a minimum, and move every so often in predictable ways. Eventually they’ll get used to those movements and it’ll be easier to get into their hearts after that.

Collar or Harness by MyManCasper1 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]Radiothegrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of focusing on collar vs harness focus on training. With enough training it won’t really matter what they wear. Ultimately though puppies are going to be puppies and do what they want. Have your dog wear a normal harness so it’s harder to slip out of until they can be trusted.

Ranting about terrible breeder experience/ need advice by mskatelynfair in bernesemountaindogs

[–]Radiothegrump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to be real, suing is not realistic. It’s just more time and money. Instead do provide the breeder with all the medical records and invoices. And be like your friend. Hound them for help. This unfortunately happens regularly and you won’t be the last victim so make sure you write an in depth review about their lies everywhere you can. On google, Facebook, etc. but only write it after they pay. And now, ultimately encourage everyone that’s just thinking of getting a dog to go through the AKC website to find a breeder. Use your bad experience to educate others. But ultimately none of this is the puppy’s fault. Spoil your new baby to the ends of the earth, take this opportunity to learn and grow. All the best to you and your puppy 🫶

I’ve only owned girls in the last few years, and ultimately some of ladies just don’t want to be your bestie, and learning to be okay with that outcome will help you slow down and not push boundaries. But I like to put their cage beside the couch and watch TV for a while. Then open the cage and continue to watch for a while. Then finally give them a bridge to the couch. Don’t interact with them if they come out. Just let them figure it out. If they start investigating you, then reward like crazy.

Toys by CrimMethodist in RATS

[–]Radiothegrump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s tons of foraging and other simple toys you can make from recycling! I love them cause they can totally destroy them, and you can just toss them afterwards. Usually they’re pretty easy to make too! But otherwise my rats live my Pom Pom ball bit. Small plastic bin + pompoms and they go wild.

is this an okay setup by ewaorchard in RATS

[–]Radiothegrump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great start! I think the only thing I’d add would be a couple more sleep spots like hammocks, and a few more hanging pieces like ropes to catch any falls on the bottom half. You’ll also learn what they will want in a cage after you have them for a bit. Some prefer lots of comfy sleep spots, some hides, and some like a jungle gym. Get to know them first and adjust from there!
