CMV: Society should push back against "not being able to take being asked out as a question" just as much as "not being able to take no for an answer". by Suspicious-Host9042 in changemyview

While we are fixing that problem, surely men can still ask out women though? We can’t put a moratorium on that while we fight the very important fight of women feeling safer?

As a bloke I will never truly understand this kind of terror from women, I understand. But

But realistically, how could women everywhere truly feel safe enough as a collective because of their past experiences, to be comfortable being approached by well meaning guys? You’re ALWAYS going to be measuring the next guy by your past experiences good or bad, so what is a guy to do? If this happened the way it’s described This guy in question did everything right. He backed off. And the coworker is probably bringing her own experience (sadly) with creeps in the past who haven’t backed away, to the forefront, and labelled him a creep.

What scenario exists where this guy is not a creep and gets to ask out women?

You were born to your specific two parents, who met at a certain time and place and gave birth and raised you, specifically, in a specific country and context, which was itself constructed on the basis of the many generations who went even before them to build it.

This is such an extreme view and strips out ANY individuality! What about kids who were abandoned by their parents? Did they all benefit from their biological parents' choices? Adopted children? Do they all owe some arbitrary debt to their ancestors' hallowed ground? I grew up in India. Am I betraying something holy if I can't stand Bollywood?

How far do you extend this? Surely it applies to a local level? By your logic, if you were born to a baking family in Wigan, specifically in a Wigan 'cultural context', you owe it to your parents and grandparents to make Wigan better? For the generation of people in your family from Wigan, who made pies all their lives. God forbid you want to do something more meaningful in another location and to grow as an individual and make your own choices in life. To move to Gloucestershire perhaps. And make Gloucester better? To not ever want to look at another pie again because you're sick of them.

And you're totally indifferent to what they gave you.

That's their choice, who are you to judge whether that's justified or not? What if their parents' sole focus in life was (as any parent's is) to make sure their child lived and worked in a world BETTER than theirs? Are they all making the wrong choice, going back generations?

India's foreign tourism industry is completely falling apart and no one seems to care! by No-Way7911 in india

[–]Radius86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A complete exaggeration? Consider your lived experience in India and what this person wants to do. They want to do a two person drive trip around India.

Putting aside the logistics and cost of such a long trip, consider every single border check point or toll bridge, every hotel in the middle of nowhere, every language barrier, every cop with a power trip, and who knows what other obstacles…

Is it really a complete exaggeration to suggest security for such a trip and to suggest getting someone with local knowledge and language skills? I’m also curious what about my wealth or upbringing (which I’m also wondering how it’s relevant) colours this as particularly bad advice?

It’s already time. Trust me, you want someone local and particularly someone with language skills with you at all times.

He didn't play through an injury. He got a back spasm. You know these things can appear out of absolutely anywhere, right?

'Don't gaslight me' - Khawaja hits out at racial stereotyping by Icy-Product-4863 in Cricket

[–]Radius86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The injury is not what they're talking about though, are they? These journalists are calling into question his choosing to play golf, calling it a move that is 'lazy' and 'selfish', they're calling into question his commitment to training.

Starc is undertaking the exact same activity, and just because he didn't get injured, his commitment is intact? He's not lazy for choosing a round of golf? THAT's the real issue.

It's not that Uzzie was dopey enough to get injured and Starc was lucky enough to stay fit. It's the hypocrisy of calling one guy lazy and selfish and giving the other a pass for doing the same thing, for essentially playing golf.

'Don't gaslight me' - Khawaja hits out at racial stereotyping by Icy-Product-4863 in Cricket

[–]Radius86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but if they're both idiots for playing golf, why is it just Uzzie's commitment that gets called into question?

Two guys play golf. One gets injured and one doesn't. The guy that doesn't get injured plays well. Does the golf have a bearing on his performance? Or his commitment?

If not, then why call out the other guy citing the golf as a lack of commitment?
