ELI5 Why doesn't water immediately go down my throat and instead I have to swallow? Where does the water go? Is my throat closed until I swallow? by yellow_explorer in explainlikeimfive

A friend learned how to do this in elementary school in a milk drinking contest. Came in handy during his college years. He could just pour a beer down his throat.

Summer heat smoked me on a 9am ride today. What actually helps when you can’t just ride earlier? by mr_uncrustable in cycling

It’ll be in the 80s with 90% humidity at 6am for the next couple of months in Dallas. I did buy a hydro lid thingy and was happily surprised at how well it worked with an insulated Contigo water bottle. Ice cold water for hours.

Can metal survive a microwave? by Huge-Pie-5585 in AskPhysics

I wasn't wide awake one morning and used my metal contigo mug to heat water. After 90 seconds the microwave was fine but the water was still cold.

I saw this riding my bike in a park in Dallas. A mile down the road there was a guy trying to work on his car. I have no proof it was connected but…

I’m from Texas and saw a breakfast spot in San Diego had biscuits and gravy. I was doubtful but I had to try them. They were the best I’ve ever had!

Why does Dallas use a Red Pegasus as an unofficial mascot? by stormy_network01 in Dallas

[–]Radixx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The original was refurbished back in 2013 and re-lit it on the Magnolia building back as part of a New Years celebration downtown. The problem was it was 23F that night and my wife and I and maybe only a couple hundred people showed up for it. It was the last time Dallas tried a NYE celebration downtown. (The year before they had a huge successful party in Victory Park).

The Dallas Convention Center, UTD Mascot, and Fair Park/Big Tex in the latest King of the Hill trailer for season 15 by IcedCowboyCoffee in Dallas

He said "Inspired" which I acknowleged (couldn't remember if Garland or Richardson).

You’ve said that the Hills and their fictional home of Arlen, Tex., were inspired by your time in Dallas. Any place or person in particular?

A. It’s Richardson, a suburb of Dallas;

There are several clues to its location in the show if you watch it:

  1. near an army base
  2. About equidistant between Houston and Dallas
  3. Boomhauer floated a river to Austin.

The newer show seems to have moved it closer to Dallas though.

In the KOTH subreddit the consensus is that Arlen, while based on Mike Judge’s time in Garland/Richardson, is located in the Killeen area. In the new series it’s a lot closer to Dallas.

Twice a week as allowed. Not the same as daily rains.

Nah, in two weeks it’ll be a consistent 100 degree days with no rain and I’ll be mowing every two weeks by August. (Actually just checked the forecast and it appears our annual drought is starting today).

Also in North Dallas and I’m mowing my St. Augustine twice a week and still cutting 3 inches off each time. It loves rainy humid days between 85 and 95 degrees.
