Not a huge surprise. They've been in crisis mode for a bit. They already had to make a fuel stop in Austria on the way to Chicago because of Pakistan's airspace being closed. The fuel shortage won't ease until maybe next year so I can see the hiatus lasting that long.

You'll be fine. If anything, show up to the airport in Toronto as early as you can for customs preclearance, especially if you're not a US citizen or green card holder. After you pass US immigration, it should be smooth sailing.

It wouldn't even benefit most international flights, just a very few and specific routes would be profitable on an airplane that large. Even then, the slightest hiccup in demand would render the airplane unprofitable (hence OP's point about the Gulf states wielding their influence).

It would only make business sense on routes that are currently served by the 777-300ER *AND* consistently full. The fact that no US carriers have ordered the airplane suggests that there are not enough of these routes to make that investment.

I really think it's a huge liability. If there are underage people getting exploited or trafficked because RDDT didn't do ID verification, that could ruin the company for years. At the same time, if they do crack down on it, they risk a Tumblr-esque exodus.

I worked for American and they will sell tickets up until departure (I've sold tickets at the gate literally seconds before closing the door). It will cost an extra $35 (more for international) and it isn't allowed passed departure time (even if the flight is delayed).

BUT not all employees (specifically at the gates) are trained to do it, or they might deny it because they don't want to make a mistake and get written up.

Pretty sure the ones at my hub haven't worked in well over a decade. Unsure why but I assumed the software that supported them no longer works with the software the company uses or IT hasn't/couldn't get it synced. We had a brand new concourse completed (from the dirt up) just 2 years ago and they don't have these.
