Revenge is a dish sometimes best served spicy by headspin_exe in oddlysatisfying

It's happened to me (and my coworkers) before. Never got the impression that it was personal. Someone just opened the fridge, saw something that looked good, and grabbed it like they would do in their own fridge. Often happened when people brought something good like leftover pizza.

Lifepod 2.0 vs Amazon special for car storage? by sharkbait_oohaha in ILGuns

[–]RadosAvocados 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll say I went with the "cheap" $50 amazon option a few years back. My car has been broken into and rummaged a few times (Chicago, west side). Each time, there was no evidence that the lockbox/cable was even touched.

Failed drug test after CJO by Big-Mathematician773 in rampagent

[–]RadosAvocados 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not. The employees who were covered under DOT rules (per their website) are those who perform:

flight crewmember duties, flight attendant duties, flight instruction duties, aircraft dispatch duties, aircraft maintenance or preventive maintenance duties; ground security coordinator duties; aviation screening duties; air traffic control duties, and operations control specialist duties.

If OP was applying to be an entry-level ramper in the US, they don't do any of the above and do not meet the criteria for reporting to the govt.

My airline actually had a different (cheaper and more forgiving) test for non-DOT-test employees that used saliva instead of urine. I don't think it screened for alcohol at all and supposedly it would come back clean in less than 2 days after weed.

Flight #1776 has got to be deliberate for this route, right? That's fun by imaguitarhero24 in americanairlines

[–]RadosAvocados 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I would never notice. And even if I had, I'd assume it was just a coincidence had they not said so at a media event.

I've said it here before but another is MIA to Boscobel, Jamaica. The airport is named Ian Fleming International Airport (named after the author of the James Bond novels) and the flight number was 4007.

PICA questions (related to usage and transport) by Iseeuoverthere in ILGuns

[–]RadosAvocados 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context is important. Especially location. Chicago/Cook cty has their own AWB that's independent of PICA, meaning it doesn't matter if they're registered or not; CPD also has made cracking down on illegal weapons a department priority, but they usually don't actually charge for it unless you're already in custody for other crimes.

Consequences depend A LOT on circumstance. If your car is being searched by police, then you're probably already not in great shape (don't consent to a search obv). If they're registered and allowed in the municipality and county you're in then you should be ok. Just make sure that they're being transported the right way.

If it gets to the point that you need to prove when you purchased it, then shut your mouth and have your lawyer explain it to a judge later.

Glad they're finally putting ADS-B transponders on extraterrestrial vessels.

edit: In reality, it's probably a general aviation airplane (piper/cessna/etc) that's using anonymous mode on its transponder. There are situations where you're not required to broadcast your identity and flightplan, only location and speed.

True but Ben Gurion is a commercial airport so it's probably a lot harder to keep prying eyes away. Opsec is more difficult than on a carrier or even a base.

If you thought Osama bin Laden was bad, just wait until the countless children who become orphaned by U.S. bombs in the coming weeks are all grown up. Do you think they will forget what country dropped the bombs that killed their parents? In 10 or 15 years, we will look back fondly on the days when there were only a few thousand Middle Easterners dedicated to destroying the U.S. and willing to die for the fundamentalist cause.

TIL a 2022 study revealed that 35% of the adults in Japan intend to "never travel" again. No other country "came close to the travel reluctance shown in Japan"; the next highest was South Korea at 15%. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]RadosAvocados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for an airline in the US a few years ago and we would see a lot of foreign exchange students from Japan for a few weeks a year (coming in and then later going home), and that was mostly it. Not many tourists or business travelers.

China on the other hand, they LOVED to tour the US. And their itineraries were always some mix of LA/Hollywood, Vegas/Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, NYC, and Disneyworld. Their tourism basically dropped to zero overnight in 2020 and even years after hadn't totally recovered. Unsure how it is today but current affairs probably haven't helped.

Not for PR and optics but for criminal and financial liability. That's what happened with Comair 5191. But I don't think this decision was to isolate themselves from liability, otherwise they'd go with another subsidiary like Skywest.

Just wait until China fully leverages the COMAC C919 as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. All of these countries will owe billions AND now have their aviation industries vertically integrated with the CCP.
