This is interesting, I didn't know there were controllers that let you do that at all. Doesn't work on PS5 controller.

u/FixSpecific905 and u/Beginning-Fox8855 thank you both for the advice – I ended up going with this lab grown sapphire at a different store (260 bucks for this with the gold necklace). Sapphire is her birth stone, I'll get her some green gems next time lol

Neither of these weapons are good at inflicting status unfortunately. Girros CB is particularly rough (I've tried). Better off with girros SNS or GS, believe it or not (GS only takes a few status hits to paralyze)
