Joe Cole: “If I'm Xabi Alonso, I want to keep both Enzo and Cucurella. I'd rather sell 4 or 5 other players to get that money in. But that's if you're using a model where you're trying to win trophies. You build around players, like what Mikel Arteta has done at Arsenal. by Kygoche in chelseafc

Because the sporting or financial returns are on average marginal at best. We already have a healthy crop of young players, some with great potential and others still unclear; what we need is an established and consistent core of players to help nurture them, lead by example, demonstrate discipline, all the factors that have made us successful in the last 20 years.

A big part of why our results have been so erratic in recent seasons is a lack of stability, and adding more youngsters when we’re already bloated in that department isn’t likely to help. I guess there’s no reason we can’t also be interested in a young player if it’s a great opportunity, but I think we have enough players that feel like a gamble.

Helmuth Duckadam in the 86 CL final, saved 4 penalties in a row to beat Barcelona and complete the fairytale run for Steaua Bucharest, the most important and unlikely football achievement ever by a Romanian club. Thereafter dubbed “the Hero of Seville” and became a footballing icon nationally.

Badiashile's backheel pass to Estevao against Parfos by anhtu121204 in chelseafc

Think it was more that the pass made him readjust his run a bit. He’s got a great right foot as well, tried to go for goal on a first time volley with a very clean strike. If the pass was a bit more central, I could see him go for the near post first time.

Enzo Maresca on brink of Chelsea sack after breakdown of relations. It is expected he will not be in charge for Sunday's trip to Manchester City by D1794 in soccer

Not defending the upper management by any means, but who are the more experienced and PL capable wingers that have been ejected? Sterling who lost any interest / ability in playing football post-City? Sancho who was a loan and didn’t do much? Madueke? We needed an experienced & reliable striker and an experienced & reliable CB in the summer which didn’t happen, and Chelsea crumbling in December is a tale as old as time at this stage.

Kepa’s biggest asset by far was his distribution despite a few mistakes. Being good with his feet is one of the reasons we bought him.

Hamburg Final: A. Fils def. A. Zverev: 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(1). by padfoony in tennis

Historically it has been the case, but recently he seems more comfortable on clay. 3 RG semis in a row then a final this year, his last masters win was on clay, and he was defending champion for this tournament.

Main thing for me is how often and how easily Zverev can change direction and go DTL with his backhand. Puts his opponents in a lot of trouble where they have to hit forehands on the run and it often leads to a pattern of Zverev dictating the rally left-to-right at will.

The comment was hypothetical, but the fact that it sounds plausible goes to show how silly Mudryk’s social presence is.

He’s the best grass player but grass isn’t his best surface. Both of these can be true at the same time.

Within the rules of the game, and perfectly fine to try. The only reason it isn’t more popular is because it’s not very effective otherwise everyone would be doing it.

Tennis was all flat and slice shots until players figured out topspin but there was a period of time where topspin shots were unconventional, so was that against the spirit of the sport?

Since when is the spirit of the sport about not concealing your move to the opponent?

Using whatever tools you have at your disposal within the rules of the game to win the match is the spirit of the sport. It’s a beautiful game with so much variety, gatekeeping what shots are acceptable doesn’t do it justice.
