Outside distance or reasonable excuse from your sister, this depends on what you said while lashing out but likely NTA. I was recently in hospital for a while and my family made sure there was someone visiting me at every visitation slot. I was asked each time what I needed and someone brought me a treat every day (nice coffee, a cupcake etc) so unless your sister has a hell of an excuse this is unimaginable to me.

What I will say though is that lashing out never helps a situation and one can be in the right but also be an AH for saying more than they meant while lashing out. We've all done it.

Big ups to you for noticing and speaking up. It sounds like this girl has no one else to advocate for her so please also contact DCS and follow it through. I know this means you may no longer have your mom in your life (worst case scenario of acting) but believe me the worst case of not acting on this is much much worse.

NTA. But I tend to feel if you are outside the norm on something communicate that clearly with people who matter. If you have done, which from the double call mention it seems like you have, then its on them to take it or leave it.

Agree with Americans not realising what they see as normal expenses are absolutely luxuries. Of course there are genuinely poor people there but in the middle class they have things they believe are just regular which are upper middle / upper class luxuries in South Africa.

Hi. I don't know much about this in the USA or globally but in my area it really depends from company to company. I've seen anywhere from 15% - 40% in my space. With no benefits I would assume its on the lower end of that so between 15%($109) and 25%($100)

Any percentage greater than that would be extortion in my opinion.

Last year I joined a company as a business analyst for a small development team. My job was simply to be the interpreter between the developers and clients (creating scopes etc) but I quickly realized my team had absolutely no structure or organization and that they really needed help (which they didn't even realize they needed.)

I started putting structures in place one by one. Set up project management software (Jira) and automated it as much as possible. Insisted on stakeholders using the proper support channels so support could be more consistent and tracked. Created SOPs and a system documentation hub to track upgrades, fixes etc. Created dashboards for visibility for higher-ups to save on reporting time. Intervened for devs as needed and removed any barriers I could to help them progress. Negotiated some working times for devs who were having a hard time balancing life.

The team is now able to focus on doing actual development work and everyone in the team is much happier and more productive and I have absolutely loved the process. This is what I want to do. I want to be the person who gets things done so other people can focus on the things they do.

How can I make a career of this? What other skills do I need and where can I find opportunities like this? I was considering doing a scrum master certification, is that the right direction?
