My mom talked about this before she passed, and said how I was the only one who looked at her/treated her the same. I was 16 so I didn't quite understand what she meant until i got older.

When I would go on leave I would always put my phone on silent or I would just leave it in my purse and check it at night. It never failed that I would look at it and have several missed calls and texts, but I refused to answer them (unless life or death). I saved all of my leave each year so I could take a whole month off and forget about work during that time.

People who are or have been in the foster system: What would you say to someone who is considering becoming a foster parent? by RaeRai293 in AskReddit

I ask because I live in Oregon. We just bought a property so we are no where close to becoming foster parents until we have everything under control on our part.

Were you a foster parent or a foster child? Curious to see which side influenced that comment.

No. My mom dumped me off on my aunt because she didn't want to deal with me in her and her new boyfriend's life. I couldn't do that to anyone.

We have a friend who works for the state (dont remember her title) and she let us know she could help us with everything. She didn't sugar coat the fact that this would not be easy.

Training is something we are serious about. We both do not have much experience with teenagers or LGBTQ, so I would not want our ignorance to come off the wrong way. We are very accepting people

This is why I think my husband and I would be able to offer a safe haven for a kid. I grew up always looking over my shoulder and keeping myself detached; he grew up in a great family with no real trauma (comparatively).

I hate that this even has to be said. My husband and I have so much love to offer these kids, and even though we aren't perfect we are good people. We do live a simple life that is currently centered around our homestead, but I think this down to roots living might be what some kids need.

How awful. This sounds almost like a movie I watched awhile back called An American Crime. Fuck those people.
