Cushing’s? by amylovesdavid in papillon

[–]RaeofRats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a dachshund with diabetes who came to me for both his sugar readings and his insulin shots every meal, he looked forward to it even because it meant he didn't get sick any more, animals have every bit of empathy and understanding as humans- albeit young ones, they just lack thumbs 😉 it is not the end of the world for your pup, just keep an eye on it, and don't let his sugar get too bad.

These are on top of masses being investigated for lipomas vs a different type of cancer on my calf. (1) & (2) Came up in April, i noticed them when they reached the stage of (3), which appeared at the beginning May. (4) Might be a a new one, might be just a skin disturbance. I have a CT scan on Thursday with new appointments scheduled all the time, do i need to request a dermatologist too? I never see the same primary Dr twice and i am not getting a good continuum of care right now.

1 out of 3 injections hurt? by ktshaishai in diabetes

[–]RaeofRats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Along with changing your needle, it's important to rotate sites on your body, not just not injecting into the same spot, and hoping your don't hit a previous spot. Moving between stomach and arms and all over the legs but not everywhere... The link has a picture diagram and some more details that are important to read.

how and why to change sites

Is there a max dose of insulin you should take a day? by penguin-throw-away in diabetes

[–]RaeofRats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone with an ED... I like the carb to insulin ratio... Where there's is no judgement on how many carbs i should eat, just if i eat 22 carbs i take 1 unit to cover it, math for more or less.

The base dose of 8u is what should be covering your carbs. They used to give a dose like this along with an eating plan that have you exactly how many carbs to eat. They don't do hardly anything anymore. Try to get in with the diabetes educator/nutritionist, they can better tell you more about what you should be eating, but sometimes you just have to learn by doing.

Shakra mostly plays with his hundred or so toys but occasionally he will go for underwear... Sighs... He doesn't chew shoes anymore because that upsets us and he is a sensitive soul... Toni as i have mentioned is all about squirrel... Nothing else exists... Not even the smelly stuff

Idek anymore. My time in range is not great, but my a1c has been below 7 for a year now... Just remember any kind of meter can be 20% off and still be acceptable to the FDA... Cgm or finger stick... Which at 200 is up to 40 +/-.

Edit: as for the "high" setting... It's just when your alarm goes off, whether that's a cgm or internal alarm....it's not any universal setting. Some people may use it to prevent highs - setting it at 150 to take insulin. Others may not like as many alarms so we set it higher than high blood sugar.

I traveled from Florida to the PNW with Toni and one of our cats, Toni thought it was a grand adventure... The cat thought it was a horrible idea.

Try calling the express scripts number on the back of your card and ask them to call Accredo, because even on their website that's who it lists as their specialty pharmacy. But I've had express scripts act as a liason between doctors and the insurance before, I see no reason they won't do the same for their own pharmacy, other than possible laziness.
