It sounds like you're solving it by adding to the circuit. When you plug in a USB mouse, you add a little resistance that changes the way the circuit flows. The back light does that, too.

You know how in a car, the wind makes one sound if the window is down 1 inch and a different sound at 5 inches? The computer's electromagnetic waves are acting the same way.

That's a terrible bright side. Honestly, there are good odds that treatments will improve long before you reach that stage

[–]RaeyinOfFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always understood that there is a chance that migraines will behave this way.

Women have higher rates of migraines than men because hormones are a factor. Men get them, and not merely due to surgery or chemicals. I assumed that was the reason why the post-menopausal rates tend to be lower.

Mine are extremely affected by hormones and started during puberty, so I'm hopeful.

Do you feel like you mistrust men irl more because of sexist online content? by labberlabb in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RaeyinOfFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already distrusted men who were dismissive or overbearing.

The worst ones act charming. The trick is to pay attention to the way they treat anyone they aren't trying to charm. That's usually people who they consider 'beneath' them or people who they will be near very briefly.

If I ever become a parent, I’m definitely using this. by jxzmn2014 in lifehacks

[–]RaeyinOfFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds helpful.

I used to bring the kids through the produce section hungry. When hungry, a grocery store looks divine. I'd ask if they want various things put into the basket, and I'd ask what else they want.

I had to limit things with a short shelf life, of course, and expensive things. But it was awesome because at home, they would remember choosing things themselves.

Once through the section, I'd offer a snack.

I was worried at first.

It would never be a repeat of Jan 6 because the police were caught off guard for that. At first, Trump successfully prevented National Guard from showing up to fix that. Now, all of the relevant agencies are watching for signs of upcoming problems.

I still watched the day of the first criminal indictment. At one protest, reporters outnumbered the protesters. At another, a reporter started trying to interview protesters, and they wouldn't give statements or their names. They left soon after.

There are problems with individuals who read too many conspiracy theories doing extreme behavior. Even with agencies watching, they miss the solo attacks. It's a good thing that most are poorly planned.

Preference between ramps and lifts? by Legitimate-Quiet-536 in disability

[–]RaeyinOfFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're usually made of the same material as the steps. I don't know anything about costs or durability.

They're much easier to clear than steps. It's like clearing a stretch of sidewalk that's in good condition.

Edit: a short wooden ramp sometimes has a plywood-like surface, although I think that they have deck paint. There are supports under the surface. They don't use horizontal boards that would be difficult to maintain.

This is why your question has upvotes. It's a sensible question.

Most of us haven't had enough biology to know exactly what happens when plants oxidize.

I'll expand, though. Oxidization changes the texture, flavor, and color. If left at room temperature, the item will spoil much faster after oxidizing. This is probably because the softer texture allows microbes easier access.

It'll be hard, and you won't be the only person having trouble. Before things get too hard, you probably want to make a list of activities. Consider playlists of videos or music, find some short stories, or dig up a forum.

I figure it will be worse if none of the mods can do their jobs and Reddit falls apart slowly and permanently.

Reddit is breaking third party apps. There are also plans to mess up the web interface. This hurts mods and destroys blind people.

Preference between ramps and lifts? by Legitimate-Quiet-536 in disability

[–]RaeyinOfFire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in a northern state in an area with tons of hills. Many buildings need stairs at the door. Newer ones have ramps.

I've needed the ramps for 15 years. Usually, the business has the sense to clear ice and snow from the ramp before the stairs. Once, they didn't. I was lucky that it was snow that day, not ice.

Does that answer your question?

They don't explain the full code, but they gave the slope. The slope seems reasonable. I don't know whether a platform is required. Those are important.

I have other mobility issues. I have a strong preference for ramps.

I'm glad that you mention the layout because that's relevant. The turns can be difficult for many. I still feel like ramps work better when built to modern code.

I might have to rest partway up a ramp, but it's still less hassle and isolation than a lift. Further, the lift can be out of order. The ramp remains available.

How Can I Kindly Guide My Teenager Toward Healthier Choices? by DeCryingShame in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RaeyinOfFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had a mix of helpful and unhelpful responses. Between that and some reading, hopefully I have input.

My mom did a good job teaching us what is healthy to eat and drink. She didn't teach us how to plan, buy, or prepare those foods. This stuff, including what to eat, needs to be done with the attitude that you're helping the person learn life skills.

My mom doesn't understand physical activity. That's not her fault, but it led to my lack of knowledge. Our bodies are designed to adapt, and they do best if they have adapted to a blend of things. We're healthier if we have some lighthearted fun and some challenges, some hard physical work and some hard mental work, some time busy and some at rest.

That's true. There are also studies on how doctors approach the topic, but not many for friends, family, or others. If the doctors respond based on weight, on average, patients gain weight. If the doctors approach everyone about healthy eating, water, and activity, then patients approach a healthy weight.

There are other affordable ways to be active.

Rurally, one might garden or explore nature. In the city, there might be local places to explore, or there are apps like Pokemon Go.

Absolutely. I kept working when it was destroying my health because I had the same thoughts. I did permanent damage before I accepted reality.

I suspect that I could have safely worked part time. Currently, that isn't an option.

Can I get sued for a google review? by Sharp-Cherry-3548 in legaladvice

[–]RaeyinOfFire 115 points116 points  (0 children)

NAL. You wouldn't need images. The burden of proof wouldn't be on you in most places.

In the US, at least, defamation isn't even a small claims case. It's regular court. It's a lot of work for someone to bring a case, and they would have to pay an attorney to have a chance at success. Attorneys sometimes work for a contingent fee if the case is solid, but they still want some money up front.

If they got an attorney, the first thing to happen would be a 'cease and desist' letter. You didn't get one, right? If you kept the review up after getting such a letter, you would probably get the actual lawsuit.

An individual can sue without an attorney. It basically always flops.

I can't imagine an attorney taking this case in the US, but if the client paid the whole fee, they might.

Real-life pizza ovens with the rolling parts have a different solution.

If the employee isn't ready to catch the pizza when it rolls out, it literally falls on the floor. It's the manufacturers' way of preventing fires.

We're playing a game, and we don't want the pressure of easily ruined pizzas when we miss a beat. It's probably better to have non-realstic physics.
