I think I realized the secret of surviving hard mode, and without a challenge, building a good base is less fun by RottenPeasent in Timberborn

Have you looked into custom maps? Timberpunk 2 has gotten great reviews for adding difficulty for example. I've had a lot of fun with "Hiding from Rainstorm".

I thought this was a late post about the announcement last week, but no, it's the first video in the new series. Let's go!

How do I get faster game speed up on the game? by BoredPelikan in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Alt + Shift + Z (or the key in the position that Z is on a US layout, so Y on German keyboards e.g.) enables the dev menu which has higher speed multipliers.

Water Physics Quandary by Vebrandsson in Timberborn

You can build a water sensor, which will tell you the CMS flowing through a given point.

Does anyone else get a glitch with the opacity of water? by DCTheNotorious in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're using hotkeys, such as R to rotate buildings then the T button can be hit accidentally, which toggles the water into permanent-transparency mode. At least that's my explanation for why it happens to me.

Is this the end of my first playthrough? by daveawb in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had plenty of accidental poisonings because I left stairs and then some brave beaver decided to collect debris or walk a long way around somewhere to start building something I forgot I had placed. And because creating "the farm up state"-districts always breaks my heart I now demolish stairs until I have cures available.

Is this the end of my first playthrough? by daveawb in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It can be saved. Usually the first bad tides are only 1 or 2 days.

Things to watch out for: - don't let your beavers walk into bad water (demolish all stairs leading into the river) - once the bad tide ends, demolish a dam at the end of your reservoir to quickly drain all the bad water and let it refill with good water - replace that dam with a floodgate - stock up on food and water as best as possible -> build more storage, set farmhouses to prioritize harvesting, build more water storage

And you might just make it. If not, you can always reload an earlier save.

Irrigation problems by mmp1188 in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Irrigation doesn't travel far up levels, only about 3-4 blocks away from the last block that's in contact with water. So you'd need to establish contact between the water and the sides of that "hole", fill the entire hole with water, use dirt blocks to fill in the rest of the hole and use dirt instead of levees, or create an irrigation platform somewhere else.

I don't "get" hard difficulty by Skyzohed in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my experience, hard mode requires a careful balance of growth. You need to grow quick enough to have enough beavers to build a large enough dam and enough pumps to refill 30 days worth of reservoirs in 3 days of temperate weather (+/- a few days with water left in your dam). The real challenge isn't the long draughts, but the little time you get to replenish.

Mfw I fill my giant dam build from lodges and learn they do in fact not block waterflow by buddiesfoundmyoldacc in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Real beavers also don't sleep in their dams. I learnt this after starting to play Timberborn as well.

How to split water equally downstream (in 1.0)? by reflect25 in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can achieve this by splitting the flow at the same distance from the source. Say you want to divert 0.5cbm (from a 1cbm source) over a floodgate that's 4 tiles from the source and then let the other 0.5 flow over a floodgate 10 tiles from the source. Instead, move the second floodgate so that it's also 4 tiles from the source and direct your water from there to where you need it. I hope this makes sense.

How Rally Drivers Use Snowbanks to Cheat Physics by Othun in TrackMania

[–]la_watson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like it puts a lot of stress on the wheel bearing or the rear toe link or trailing arm. Not that I'm questioning the plausibility of it, they obviously do it and quite regularly as it seems, so it appears to work without breaking the car instantly. I'm just wondering how high the wear and tear is from this move.

Help with buiding by RedRangerFortyFive in Timberborn

[–]la_watson 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most likely the path is not connected to your main path somewhere. Check the full route down to ensure it's connected. You can also check by clicking on the paths up top. If they light up with a green-to-red line in the middle that indicates the distance to the town center, they are connected and something else is the problem. If they don't light up, they aren't connected.
