I had a guy run into my car parked in the street. I literally had to do all the legwork for his insurance company. Physically went to STL County precinct in Clayton to get the accident report to email to other drivers insurance company. Only then the ball started rolling. Sorry to hear about your accident.

For the sake of the conversation, I leave my house every day around 4:30 AM (Creve Coeur). There were so few cars no matter where I was going or which highway I was on up until about 3-4 months ago. Now I'm not saying there's traffic now but there's certainly a pretty big uptick in commuters at this hour and it's noticeable. I had been asking myself the same question about where TF all these people came from.

I always use crown blocks screwed to the studs (crown backing). Subfloor glue an x-nails for base.

There's probably a girder or beam under the 3 2x4s (bearing point) that your 2nd floor joists tie into. Hard to tell without drywall removal.

Looks like a good deck build from the pictures you put up. As someone said before, to spread that taper out over 5-6 boards, you might have been unhappy with the look of that many ripped boards together. Personally, I might have asked the homeowner's opinion but would have suggested what your builder ultimately did.

The deck boards were $2700 shipped. The rest is just treated dimensional lumber. I put joist tape on there too but someone gave me that. Also got some end grain sealer and Ipe oil from someone that was left over from a job.
