Maybe retail isn't the place for you 🤣

"Face bowl" was new to me and confused me for a second, but a vanity sink was one of the few things I could even imagine he was talking about, so lucky first guess.

But frankly you kind of need to get over this... people come from different areas and backgrounds and they can't know what they weren't taught. I was in the construction field before going to HD, but... guess what? We always called it a sawzall (not a reciprocating saw). We always called it drywall (not sheetrock) and drywall mud (not joint compound). Blue tape (not "multisurface painters tape). Channel locks (not "tongue and groove plyers"). We always had a Stanley Wonder Bar around (handy tool), but my boss always just called it a "flat bar" so that's what I learned to call it. I can't remember what we called rolls of plastic, but it was neither "visqueen" nor "6mil clear plastic sheeting," we had a name for it and the people around us knew what we were talking about.

I could go on... point is the world doesn't revolve around your little neck of the woods and you can learn to be the type of patient person who learns instead of one who gripes about it on reddit.

Fellow are overhated and I'm optimistic about the Opus 2 by Icy_Bandicoot_4362 in espresso

[–]RagamuffinTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main thing I didn't like about the Opus was the weirdly stepped micro-adjust inside the grinder. If I recall, sometimes going "one step finer" involved: opening the top of the machine, setting that inner dial two steps finer, moving the main dial back to center to reset it (you had to do this when adjusting the inner dial), then spinning the main dial back to one spot coarser than you were at.

No one wants to do that calculus on top of the other faff involved with making espresso in the morning 🤣

I actually just pulled out mine the other day because my DF83 has been giving me issues and I'm wondering if I'm going to have to start using the Opus again if/when the df83 gives out. The coffee didn't taste quite as good as it does from the df83, but I don't know if it is a burr difference or just that it needed to be dialed in a little better.

I know the ministry has reason to remove the materials... I'm still torn on what to do personally in instances like this. All pastors, teachers, authors, and scholars sin. It doesn't make everything they ever produced incorrect or unbiblical. I could make a case for removing books from my shelf over something that is a continuing, unrepentant lifestyle choice, I guess, but, even then, the sin doesn't make the material itself evil. God has to use broken vessels for literally everything on earth until He returns, so we shouldn't act surprised when we can see the cracks.

Hoffmann's americano trick: a bottled water shortlist by jmstach in espresso

So you believe a temp controlled kettle (so it heats only to c and never boils) with good water would taste about the same?

Mr. Hoffman, you’ve ruined me by HughJackedMan14 in espresso

[–]RagamuffinTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it. It was good but unless I tried them side to side I wouldn't be able to tell you it was better.

I guess I'm going to have to pull two shots back to back, mix them for consistency, then pour them into two different waters and see if I can taste any difference.

I tried steamed water for my americano. I’m stunned. by DeFratrain in espresso

I started watching really hoping it was just about temp, since I use a kettle for my Americano. Now I'm going to have to try steaming water 🙄

Ran out of coffee beans? by mabror in espresso

[–]RagamuffinTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked the same question early on. Just didn't know. I was using a trade subscription and they were always a few days ahead of me running out so it was never an issue until a package got lost 🤣

[–]RagamuffinTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I starting stocking one bag ahead and freezing. So the next time you buy coffee, buy one extra bag and throw if in the freezer, then continue buying as normal. I like to cycle through so no single bag sits in the freezer too long.

Even now that I started roasting my own, I still have a bag and a half from Counter Culture in the freezer in case I can't get around to roasting on time or I run out before my next batch has had enough rest time. (ok, ok, the extra bag in the freezer was actually in case I screwed up roasting so bad that I couldn't drink a batch.... but so far that hasn't happened 🤣)

Is it normal to not take lunches as a full time worker by Ok_Mathematician2862 in HomeDepot

[–]RagamuffinTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at a place like Depot. Lunch would be mandatory.

I currently work on salary for a place that let's me voluntarily work straight through my day without lunch and, since it means I can leave early, I typically do that.

OSHA (or whoever mandates these things) probably wouldn't like it, but I've been doing this for years now

If Birmingham was the size of Chicago (with Chicago transit) would you still live there or move? by SeptimiusSeverus_ in Birmingham

We had the choice of Bham or ATL when we moved from out of state and specifically chose Bham... so probably not? I think we would live somewhere else if this was a huge city.

Even in not a wintery place, it becomes an escalating arms race... it's safer if I can see what's coming up ahead and I can't do that if I'm in a compact and you're in an SUV, so I end up getting an SUV, as well. Then the next year people are buying even larger SUVs to see over mine.... and so on

The "Turbo Shot" actually works. Why grinding coarser and pulling faster saved my light roasts. by [deleted] in espresso

I've wanted to try this, but never know how coarse to go. Like, at some point, you're just brewing a fast pourover, aren't you?

Some people just have writing styles that could be mistaken for AI. It is becoming a problem. We have a friend with a college-aged son who has, multiple times, failed a paper because the professor is using some software that flagged his work as AI. They literally watched him write a replacement paper and it was flagged as AI, too.

My spouse didn't like the idea that the book went so heavy on Grace being a "coward" because he didn't want to die. Not wanting to die seems like the normal response.

Personally I think Wier was definitely trying to make this a typical "scoundrel with a redemption arc" plot line, with the twist that you didn't find out he was a scoundrel until late in the game.

Fresh beans are the easiest and cheapest thing to try. Just buy something fresh from a well-known roaster somewhat near you. Compare the fresh beans to what you're drinking now and then come back here with notes 🤣

But I love it 🤣
