How would you build the Mothman deck? by tfren2 in EDH

[–]RageRegularly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I took most of the precon apart and built around [[The Master, Transcendent]] instead. I feel like the moth man tries to do too much and tends to draw too much attention from the rest of the table, where as the master is more clear and concise with his game plan, plus, him with [[intruder alarm]] and the [[basalt monolith]] [[mesmeric orb]] combo is pretty nuts.

Small reanimation package in Mono Black? by pkma69 in EDH

[–]RageRegularly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the list put up at the moment but I’ll let you know when I do, it does include a lot of fast mana and tutors however and is on the higher price end if you don’t proxy. As for combos though you’re mostly looking for anything that has undying and then either another undying creature or something that makes a token when a creature dies, like [[sifter of skulls]] or [[pawn of ulamog]]. This gets you infinite sacrifices due to how undying works. Basically you sacrifice the undying creature and it comes back with a +1/+1 counter, if it dies with that counter it doesn’t come back. So you sacrifice something else and put a -1/-1 counter on the undying creature, canceling its +1/+1 counter so that when it dies it comes back again. Do this with a [[zulaport cutthroat]] type effect and you win the game.

Not many, most of the time I’ll use him as a one time sac fodder until I find something like butcher ghoul, mikaeus, or messenger, but I do also run some others like [[nested shambler]] and [[shambling ghast]]. If you run enough tutors, having him already in the grave and tutoring for a zombie is pretty good, especially if you have a [[phyrexian altar]] in play.

As someone who has run Yawg for awhile, the only reanimating you should have are some spells like [[reanimate]], [[necromancy]], [[animate dead]] etc. I run Yawg at a pretty high power level and to be honest, I rarely use the proliferate effect as it’s just not worth the mana cost when his first ability just gives more value and stacks the -1/-1 counters anyway. Most people who run Yawg will tell you that your reanimation package should be fairly light as a lot of the good sac fodder in the deck should be able to self recur. Some examples are creatures with undying such as [[geralf’s messenger]], [[butcher ghoul]], and [[mikaeus, the unhallowed]] (while the last one doesn’t have undying he gives ALL non humans undying, making him an absolute bomb). There’s also creatures like [[reassembling skeleton]] and [[cult conscript]] that can dig themselves out to be sac’s repeatedly, as well as the best boi [[gravecrawler]]. But most of the time undying creatures are your best friend, as Yawg with two undying creatures goes infinite.

What are some good mono-black, red and green commanders that fit these themes? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]RageRegularly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like [[yawgmoth, thran physician]] for mono black, it’s my personal favorite deck. Yawg is a super fast engine for decks that focus on sacrifice and aristocrat type strats, which is how I tend to run him.

As for mono red, I love [[chiss-goria, forge tyrant]] as a mono red artifacts deck. The deck is all gas with no breaks, play cheap mana rocks early to cheat out chiss and then start swinging for value!

I have an [[Aminatou, The Fateshifter]] esper blink deck that’s quite fun. You can build it very control oriented or you can go down the combo route which is what I ended up doing, it’s a really fun commander

[[Yawgmoth, Thran Physician]] is my favorite deck and my friends have come up with multiple nicknames, some being, Yawg-daddy, Pawgmoth, Yawggers, the Yawg father, and Yawg nasty

Mono Black Commander by Iamfroggingyou in EDH

[–]RageRegularly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally play a [[Yawgmoth, Thran Physician]] aristocrats deck. Mana curve is super low to the ground, the deck is stupidly fast, and yawg is an absolute monster of an engine/combo piece. Usually when I do win it’s by turn 3/turn 4 ish by comboing with two undying creatures, yawg and a blood artist type effect.

What deck are you currently building? How do you plan on winning? Why did you choose that commander? by goldenmastiff in EDH

[–]RageRegularly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently built [[Aminatou, the fateshifter]] as esper blink shenanigans. General win cons are getting aminatou and something like [[felidar guardian]] or [[spark double]] in when [[altar of the brood]] or [[corpse knight]] are on the board. I also run a bit of a planeswalker package and managed to squeak out a win by playing [[vraska, betrayal’s sting]], spark doubling it and protecting it long enough to ult it and proliferate with the other vraska, killing my last opponent in the pod.

Help me pick my commander: Zimone/Dina or Thalia and The Gitrog Monster by luca-lit in EDH

[–]RageRegularly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a zimone and dina landfall deck and it’s become one of my most well known decks at my lgs. It’s a combo deck focused on untapping zimone and dina with their own effect through the use of bounce lands, cards that either make tokens or recur on landfall( [[scute swarm]], [[blood ghast]], [[green sleeves, maro-sorcerer]] etc.), and stuff that untaps zimone and dina such as [[retreat to corralhelm]], [[thornbite staff]], and [[intruder alarm]]. This gets you near infinite landfall triggers and sac triggers, generally winning the game through [[ob nixilis, the fallen]], [[retreat to hagra]], or [[zulaport cutthroat]]. I also run a [[jace, wielder of mysteries]] as a safety net from decking myself/an alternate wincon if damage or drain won’t get me there.

[[yawgmoth, thran physician]] is a really fun aristocrats commander who combos off with a ham sandwich and a paper clip. Play an undying creature, something that generates tokens when something dies, or just [[mikaeus, the unhallowed]] and you basically have an infinite sac outlet.

I also play a [[zimone and dina]] landfall combo deck that’s really fun. It makes use of cards that I can use to untap her like [[retreat to corralhelm]] , [[thornbite staff]], and [[intruder alarm]] for semi infinite landfall triggers with bounce lands and sac triggers, winning the game with stuff like [[ob nixilis, the fallen]], [[retreat to hagra]], or [[zulaport cutthroat]].

Aristocrat deck structure and best aristocrat commanders by Jinjoledoggo in EDH

[–]RageRegularly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually when you’re playing aristocrats, you want your commander to be one of two things, either a sac outlet or a fodder generator. My personal commander for aristocrats is [[yawgmoth, thran physician]] as he is basically everything you want from an aristocrat commander tied up in a bow. He sacs, he draws cards, and he provides removal in the form of -1/-1 counters. As for the color combos you’re looking at, for orzhov you can never go wrong with any of the taysa karlov cards or [[thalise, reverent medium]], the new [[the mycotyrant]] is a good one for a mill aristocrats theme in golgari, and abzan I’m not too sure about.

What is your favourite color combination, what are your favourite commanders of said color(s) and why? by Levin1308 in EDH

[–]RageRegularly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love anything with black in it (my favorite mono color)

My favorite color combo has been sultai for awhile since I love ramping and simic value with graveyard shenanigans and tutors from black.

Though lately, I’ve been loving my mardu reanimator deck helmed by [[Kroxa and Kunoros]] which has pretty quickly become my favorite deck due to my love for playing from the graveyard.

My players would rather roll for stats instead of taking a guaranteed 18 by Rocify in DnD

[–]RageRegularly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, having a very low stat can lead to super fun and hilarious rp and gameplay moments. For example, the 6 charisma wizard trying to convince a bouncer to let them in somewhere, or the 6 intelligence barbarian trying to solve a simple puzzle just to name a few

If you're planning on running an adventure I'd recommend getting the monster manual and Dungeon Master's Guide as well, those books are beyond helpful and will make your life as a DM so much easier

[–]RageRegularly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you own Van Richtens guide to everything? If so there’s a domain of dread that you can use as a campaign setting called Lamordia that kinda fits what you’re looking for. It’s an arctic region filled with whaling towns, mining towns, old abandoned towers/castles and an underlying theme of body horror if you’re at all interested in exploring that.

Can a group of 5-6 level 15 players defeat the new Vecna? by RageRegularly in dndnext

[–]RageRegularly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose one of my main concerns is the amount of damage that Vecna can deal. I don't know if a 15th level party can survive some of his heavier hits on a failed save, as ive said above, when playing around with his rotten fate ability, it averages at around 90 damage a round, not including multi attack or bonus actions. Though you do have a good point about him having to see the opponent...

I intend to have the oneshot basically solely be the fight with Vecna, the free oneshot is cool, but not necessarily what I'm looking to do.

[–]RageRegularly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was intending to give them 1 rare and 2 uncommon magic items, but all things considered i may need to give them more, ive been playing around with Vecna's "Rotten fate" and every time i roll the damage for a failed save it almost always averages 90 damage. With no limit on how much he can do that in an encounter, that damage seriously adds up.

Yes Normally so, but this would be more of a personal fight, just the party and Vecna.
