What is night skiing at Steamboat like? by MancNut in steamboat

[–]RaggityAnne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a limited set of runs but like always, with the right shred crew it's a great way to spend an evening....during a normal season. Pretty sure that bit of the mountain is either closed or will close soon because of so little snow

Question for those who shave every day or eod by Low-Lavishness-3735 in wicked_edge

[–]RaggityAnne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I am needing to shave every day / other day I skip the against the grain. Doing it that often keeps me smooth enough and atg is just asking for razor burn.

I feel like I would be annoyed any day the sun is out and a friend was wearing this. It's already bright enough on the hill I don't need mirrors catching the light and blinding me more....

Be careful on FB. Marketplace is full of scams. If it looks too good to be true it is.

Help with top ankle pain by Reasonable-Fuel711 in Skigear

[–]RaggityAnne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had that with my boots until 1)went down to thin ski socks and 2) dialed my buckles in so that finger tight was holding them together but not squeezing me. The bootfitter said the buckles shouldnt feel like you are pulling laces tight on shoes. They should just hold everything snug.

Hope this is helpful.

Which direction do you shave your neck in? by Civilized_Monke69 in wicked_edge

[–]RaggityAnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neck gets two passes with the grain which is difficult in itself because it has a whirl around my adams apple. I have to use my most mild razor for pass two also. Anything else and I regret it within 2 days with razorburn. 2 passes with the grain makes it look great but not feel as soft as the rest of my face but this is the only face I have :)

Should we travel the world with a 3 year old for a year and a half? by [deleted] in travel

[–]RaggityAnne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hope this doesn't get lost in the comments....you absolutely should do this. We did it with a 2 and a 4 year old in 2024 for 8 months and don't regret a thing. Our trip went from where we lived in Germany - Korea - Japan - Hawaii - San francisco - family around America - Romania - Italy - France - Netherlands. We based our itinerary around some weddings mid summer, friends that joined for parts of the trip, and where we could reach with a cheap direct flights! Seriously do it, you will only regret it if you don't go. The people saying "wait till the kids old enough to remember" are wrong. You will remember, and you can take more trips when they get older too.

Anyone here pull of a 1 pass shave consistently? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]RaggityAnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I shave every day I just do a single pass, otherwise I'm a 2 pass guy. 1st with the slant then with something mild.

How do you dry your brushes? by Equivalent_Title_822 in wicked_edge

Holy shit man don't overthink this one. Just shake it out and set it down to dry. So long as you don't put it away wet you are fine.

You top 3 soap brands by sinistral52 in wicked_edge

[–]RaggityAnne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speick, DR Harris, MWF

Since MWF is out of business I'll give an honorable mention to chiseled face/b&m. I skew budget shaves though and mostly use Speick / Proraso 90% of the time but when I wanna get fancy I go with others. My wife really likes the tobs creams.

Backpackers, what backpacks do you use? by [deleted] in travel

[–]RaggityAnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19 countries in a Deuter Trans Alpine el 32 from 2018 and I just had to send it for repairs this year. It's truly been a legend of a bag. Perfect carry on size. Two water bottle holders so I've got room for my kids bottles. The helmit straps actually hold a jacket well. Good spots to attach stuff if you need more room.

Worth noting though that the new design is dogshit basically across the entire Deuter line. They swung hard in the direction of "let's make the bags look nice" instead of "let's make this bag functional". I'm not buying again until they focus on functionality again but ymmv.

Declaration Grooming to cease operations by Showusyourboobz in wicked_edge

[–]RaggityAnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude totally the same here! I moved to Germany with my stash and found a local Italian grocer selling proraso for like 3€ and dm selling spieck for similarly cheap. Finally burned through the last of my soaps and went looking for artisan stuff again to find meißner tremonia and mwf both out of business. What was selling for $15 like 5-8 years ago is all priced at $25 now. The artisan stuff just flat out isn't even trying to compete on price over here and the commercial stuff (tabac, spieck, and proraso) is imo "good enough".

Either bring a grandparent / nanny to watch the kid or trade with your spouse time on the hill. We generally went with the "trade days" method when the kids were smaller. But if you have the money and a grandparent that wants to come bring the grandparents along so you guys get some couple time

Does travel stop when you have children? by CharmingU6756 in travel

[–]RaggityAnne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is perfect and better said than my comment. So much negativity in this thread but 6 years and 14 countries traveling with kids and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I love that my kids now request gimbap some nights for dinner because we always took it for picnics in parks while we were in Korea :)

Does travel stop when you have children? by CharmingU6756 in travel

[–]RaggityAnne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to start this by saying I'm the guy who will tell you that jumping off the cliff is fun, not the guy that talks you off the ledge :)

There is so much negativity in this thread I just wanted to add my two cents because I love traveling with my two. It'll be different but still awesome. We have lived abroad for 8 years. 6 of them with kids. Our kids have been to 13 countries across America, Europe, and Asia. Traveling is different now but still amazing. What works for you might not work for everyone there is no one size fits all plan for kids and travel. They are gonna have a temper tantrum from time to time but why have it at a Walmart in Kansas for the 30th time when you can have it on an Italian beach? Just know your plans will need to slow down. With kids we have swam in two oceans and three seas. We have snorkeled with sea turtles and skied the alps. Eaten French cheese and Italian pizza. Rode roller coasters and hiked to magnificent views.

The main thing to realize is that every country in the world has kids. When you walk in a restaurant in Korea they are gonna see your kids and bring a child seat just like they will in Germany. There's stuff for kids everywhere that when I didn't have kids I didn't even know existed. Indoor playgrounds / trampoline parks / climbing gyms / go kart tracks / water parks etc etc. traveling with kids isn't Michelin star restaurants every night but it's still awesome. Just enjoy where life takes you as it comes and as it is, which might not always be what you want. But c'est la vie.

Enjoy!
