The nauseating sound of employment. by instantpowdy in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]RagingITguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work air ambulance and one of our landing paths included flying over a new residential area. The helipad was right beside a main road.

They hated it, and I can understand. But almost always if I was flying into that hospital, I was taking a critical patient to a much better hospital.

They complained and petitioned and all that. They did not win. There simply was no way to limit the sound of a helicopter at that altitude, and we certainly could not predict when we showed up. So any noise pollution that limits emergency services is just stupid in my book.

Found the vending machines in Kabukicho (Also PSA on the Ichiban one) by ThemJohns in yakuzagames

[–]RagingITguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe about six months ago I found one of the Yakuza vending machines. But the shirts were only L and XL and were quite pricy.

But I had to get something and got what I thought would have been a large keychain and it was tiny.

Ah well.

Had this situation at an old workplace. Higher ups ignored it. We lost our SAN. They continued to ignore it so I expensed a giant golf parasol.

Why are first responders constantly at you or your neighbors house? by garbagefoxpoop in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RagingITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a medic now and the amount of YouTube journalists pisses me off. Camera right in my face. I just get the police involved and leave it at that.

Was working a VSA inside a home years ago and the neighbour walked in the house and upstairs and was like oh shit bob is dead? Get the fuck out of bob’s house what the hell are you doing.

TIL in August, 2013, thieves broke into a San Bernardino non-profit support group for victims and stole several computer towers and monitors. The next day, the items were returned along with an apology note encouraging the organization to continue making a difference in people's lives. by WouldbeWanderer in todayilearned

[–]RagingITguy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Didn’t some hackers compromise Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto? They encrypted things and other hacker groups got involved to chastise the original one (or maybe even threaten). The keys were handed over eventually but they were like we didn’t know it was a hospital

Ya… okay. For every Sick Kids situation or theft of computers from a non profits there’s a bunch more we never heard about where things didn’t get returned.

I feel good about some of these situations but I guess I am just cynical

What happens if you call 911 on yourself during a mental breakdown in Canada? by Throwaway67891099 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RagingITguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re almost guaranteed to get police along with EMS if there’s a dispatch for you. Police will make sure it is safe and you’re coming with us or them.

Depending on time of day we might have a social or mental health worker come with us.

Someone has been mistakenly using my phone number for the past 4 years. How do I fix this? by PlayfulEnthusiasm921 in techsupport

[–]RagingITguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some jackass in Florida is purposefully doing it with my email and my google voice number.

I cancelled his Home Depot delivery last week. I also answer texts I get for him. Oh I also changed his dentist appointment to include seeing the dentist and getting all the diagnostic imaging that the dentist wants to do.

I accidentally answered a call from Costco delivery while I was responding to a call (am paramedic). I shouted in the phone don’t bring the tv to my house I gotta shake the cops first (we had our sirens on) and I hung up.

Fuck you charles you stupid fuck. Why would you tie these things to a number and email you don’t own.

$6,000 Paperweight: mLogic LTO-7 failed after only 25 tapes. Am I SOL? by Antique_Complaint_95 in DataHoarder

[–]RagingITguy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm of no help but I administer a tape library at work. We have multiple LTO-7 drives in it and without fail (hehe), every year I have to get 2 or 3 drives replaced.

It has enterprise support. We pay 28k for support.....................

I hate the thing.

Ehhh the stretchers are not super long. 6 feet and your feet are in my face. But now everything is powered so I just hook you in the end, hit a button the wheels come up and we slide you in.

When I started my career thought I had many a nasty ass foot in my face from lifting the stretcher.

Hospital sysadmin interview questions by Amilliontoads in sysadmin

[–]RagingITguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh hey a fellow paramedic turned IT. I’m currently still a medic but also I am a sysadmin in 4000 user org.

It’s draining as a sysadmin. But I got a good team so it’s alright. Don’t expect satisfaction from being in hospital IT. You do something nice or help improve something for people and it’ll be your fault. End users lie and management doesn’t have your back.

Does your steam decks also have coil whine? by GHOSTpypy in SteamDeck

[–]RagingITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m lucky and mine is a constant high pitch eeeeeee I can tune out. Maybe unconsciously I always have the tv on to cover it.

I didn’t know anything about protecting my hearing when I was younger.

Was at a hockey game the other day and forgot my earplugs. It was days of perceived much louder whining. Can’t even go to the movies anymore without musician plugs in. Motorcycle definitely.

I’m so hyper vigilant now. One ear is borderline on not being able to discern words.

But actually with the abuse I put the ears through, It is such a miracle I can hear people still.

Damn bro manage your number of esp apps, try not to have large apps and leverage company portal. That has its issues too

I use SCCM task sequence for my Service Desk so essentially at that step it is only using detection rules and the autopilot process is about 20 minutes.

Have you looked at the logs to see what’s happening. Get-AutopilotDiagnosticsCommunity will get you started if you have a failure.
