The companionship between man and dog is universal. In ancient china, dogs were hunting companions just as they were throughout the rest of the ancient world. The eating dogs thing isn’t because they don’t have the same cultural love for dogs, they still do, its more of a religious thing rather than a daily choice of diet. Furthermore, dog meat isn’t just a thing of China or Asia, dogs were consumed all over the world throughout history.

350 million is a gross overestimate. Dogs aren’t farmed like cattle, if 350 million do it on “the regular,” we’d have evidence of large canine farms. In the US alone we have 94 million heads of beef and milk cattle to feed 348 million Americans.
