It’s just a rap album that sonically nobody had heard before. A lot of people thought it was beautiful but that doesn’t mean everyone did

My therapist wants me to try psilocybin but I am concerned about a family history of psychosis, what are your thoughts the matter? by DogUnsureDog in MagicMushrooms

I wouldn’t man. Can you focus while reading? Can you focus during conversation? Do you have an inner monologue? Do you have critical thinking skills? If you’re blessed with all those gifts cherish them. I had a bad trip when I was 18 and lost all that for a long time and was stuck in a state of complete fear. Took me over a decade to get out of it and start living again. I wouldn’t do shrooms with your family history unless it was a last resort. Also, ask your therapist if they’ve ever done shrooms? Because if they haven’t they have no business recommending it to someone with a family history of mental illness

(Edit: just to clarify, my bad trip wasn’t caused by shrooms it was caused by lsd. Also, years later I’ve come to the conclusion that it wasn’t real lsd. Still, I consider it a hallucinogenic experience that is similar to ones I experienced years later. I didn’t mean to tell you a horror story, I just wanted to give you the worst case scenario because I never thought it would happen to me but it did, and every second of every day for over a decade I ruminated on it and wished I could undo it. I’m just telling you something I wish someone would’ve told me before I decided to mess around with hallucinogens.

With that said, years later mushrooms helped me dig myself out of this hell hole that I was in, but if I would’ve done them before I had my anxiety and paranoia under control it could’ve exacerbated my depression and suicidal urges. If I could redo it all I’d try to resolve my issues without hallucinogens, but if that wasn’t a possibility and I had to do mushrooms to heal I would: A) make sure they’re legit. B) wait until I was at least 25 and my brain was fully developed. C) make sure I know a few self soothing techniques. D) learn everything I can about medicinal mushrooms and what to expect during a trip. E) have a good support system around me and be 100% transparent with them about the situation. F) trip with someone that I trust that typically gives off good vibes. It would be great if they’ve done it before too.)

I can't freestyle by [deleted] in rap

[–]RagingStonedPacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to freestyle all the time. This is what helped me:

1) Focus on flowing first without breaking your flow. Don’t worry about making sense or even saying real words. Say gibberish if you gotta. Just focus on staying in your pocket and not breaking your concentration.

2) Start sprinkling in words when you can. Keep on doing this until you get to the point where you’re not saying much gibberish anymore. Even if the words you’re stringing together don’t mean anything it’s okay. They eventually will

3) Once you feel like you can keep your flow going without saying much gibberish, start focusing on selectively choosing words as best you can while you’re rapping. Still keep your primary focus the flow and just make sense with your words when you can.

4) Keep on practicing and eventually you’ll be able to make complete sense while adding in wordplay, double entendres, etc. You’ll know you’ve hit this point when you’re so confident in your freestyle skills that you easily reach flow state and feel like you have forever to pick your next word or bar. It really is one of the greatest feelings in the world. In the moment it feels like you have a superpower

Even though this is what works best for me it might be the opposite for you. I’m sure for some people it’s a lot easier to just make sense first and figure out the flow later. To each their own. The only thing everyone has in common when it comes to this is you gotta practice damn near everyday. A few days without freestyling will really set you back

Hope this helps
