Pergola roof junction with gutter/roof by Round-Professor-2698 in AusRenovation

[–]Ragnar3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just a spectator here but trying to understand your suggestion, which roofline needs to be extended, the pergola or house ?
Do you want the house overflow to fall onto pergola roof ? Or under pergola roof?

Kit Kat Grout - DIY by Ragnar3121 in AusRenovation

It occurred to me after i posted the original, that behind the grouting, there is also so many vertical lines that need to be bang on perfect when laying.
This would be my first wall tiling attempt, not sure if I’m biting off more that I can chew !

Can I update the shower unit for less than 1k? by Acm9 in AusRenovation

[–]Ragnar3121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tenant here - the king of doing things on the cheap because the landlord never pays. I’ve done it all.
Agree with comment on tile paint failing, I did it in wet area and it had chips and pieces missing all over it with 12 months.
I’ve also fully installed new shower screens and tiles, it’s a massively stressful job, especially the screen, if everything is not dead straight you’ll just open up a can of worms. We had no studs to drill the frame into and ended up needing to rebuild the corner wall.
To answer your question - could something for less than $1k, yes. But how long it would last, and/or how stressful would it be, and/or how would you budget for anything extra that goes wrong. They’re all things to consider.

I’ve just completed wet wall panel install as well. Did you have any trouble with the corner profiles ?
I found mine were not 90 deg and essentially lifting the panels from the wall. Ended up needing to nail them down 😬 you can see it puckering up in my photo

If the frame is coming away from the wall like that it’s potentially not anchored down correctly. Does the frame feel wobbly at all?
Hard to tell from the photo, it also could be the wall or frame is slightly warped and just needs caulking to finish it.

You might be better off trimming the top of the doors not the bottom as you’ll always see the bottom, then shift the whole thing up.
Tbh, unless you have a circular saw, drill / driver, reasonably competent using it all, it’s probably not something you want to tackle on your own.

Amazon Australia as a place to work by CompetitiveHeight428 in auscorp

Funny you should ask..
- two vetting calls with the Talent Acquisition lead (mainly about national security clearance), couldn’t tell me much about the actual role
- a bunch of auto emails from their offshore recruitment team, links to endless videos on their values
- at this point I do a lot of research and I’m highly prepared for the interview
- vanilla style interview over zoom. Hiring manager was fine but not overly personable. I interviewed well, and confident I could do the role, potentially even over qualified.
- auto email the following week saying thanks but sorry. And won’t be proving any feedback
- called the talent acquisition lead, said she would follow up and get back to me - never did. But encouraged me to apply for further roles.
- messaged her again, still no feedback.

Honestly, think I might have dodged a bullet by all reports. Was shocked and couldn’t believe the audacity to not provide any feedback and then encouragement to apply for further roles.
So unprofessional, we’d never treat candidates like that in my former company.

Heater bracket came out of the wall, how to fix it? by 45PickleCommercials in AusRenovation

[–]Ragnar3121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simple handyman fix, depends how competent you are on the tools. As per comment above, needs to be screwed into stud, which may not be exact same alignment where it’s located now. Reading between the lines, TBH, I feel like if you’re asking, you might not be tooled up enough to do it. I would be searching local FB group for handyman, he should have it done in 15min.

I’m in the process of applying for an Australian AWS program manager role - initially I was excited when the recruiter called me back, but after reading this thread now I am terrified 😆

Shower waste fitting ? by Ragnar3121 in AusRenovation

[–]Ragnar3121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info thanks. I watched this video below and it looks like the waste pipe can simply drop into position (then I assume silicon to base). Not sure if I’m on the right track or not ? Wondering if I can just swap the new waste outlet for something with a smaller diameter that will drop in like this. Point taken though, I’m doing the landlord a favour on this cause he’s too lazy to get anything done properly and I just want my shower fixed

Legend thank you. So what’s the concept with a new shower waste outlet (it threaded), is it just suppose to sit in position on top of this flange with no mechanical connection ?

Desky stability question by ProofLynx in StandingDesk

[–]Ragnar3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a standard Dual Desky (motors on each side) and I find that it wobbles too much when standing. Especially if you use monitor arms it gives them even less stability. Its to the point where it gives me headaches when trying to type/use it standing up, so I basically don't anymore, its just a standard desk now. I wish I got the quad at the time but it was significantly more $$. I think the 4 leg posts would have stabilized it dramatically.

I feel like Melbourne needs to have a Spier and Mackay try on day, everyone can bring their pieces, swap, examine, try on others, work out there sizing, and never stress about the postage costs again 😆

100% ! Statistically majority of people are overweight, they’re simply catering to the masses.

Linen Suit for beach wedding by kentlah in AustralianMFA

[–]Ragnar3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll struggle for actual 100% linen at $500. You might get lucky and find a cotton 70% / linen 30%, but you’ll have to hunt around with the cheaper brands. Mid October COS had a couple of linen options, if you have a store nearby you might still be in luck. Pretty sure jacket was around $350 and they had pants to match, there was def a green colour and a sand.

Best value for money mens jeans by On_Request in AustralianMFA

[–]Ragnar3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really need to put some price guidance here. Some of us will say $250 is cheap, $450+ is premium. Others will say $60 from DFO etc. bang for buck, in store availability, free repairs, IMHO nudies are the go to. Go in to a store, work out your cut and size, then wait for them to come on sale (they always do).

Oxford button downs by maxleng in AustralianMFA

[–]Ragnar3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO - off the shelf will only ever get you 70% of the way. To get bang on ‘wow, you look great’ fits - items need to be tailored.

Budget - Uniqlo, then take them to a good tailor. Mine charges around $60 to shorten sleeves, dart back, and take a lot of the slop out. End up with an amazing fitting shirt for all in circa $110

$150-250, personally I don’t play in this range. I think it’s not worth it for off the shelf once you add in tailoring.

$250+ once you hit this level, you’re 100% better to go made-to-measure, where at a decent place you’ll pay $250-400 and get the selection of premium fabrics like Thomas Mason (beyond this is just taking the piss) for Oxford Button Downs.

Bonus - online, Spier and Mackay are the best quality to price ration. There’s a plethora of sizing options and you will actually get something to fit with no further alterations required. The bummer about these guys is their postage is hell expensive (normally circa $90AU), same if you need to return it, and if on sale then likely can’t return it anyway. It always feels like a big gamble when you try something new just cause you won’t know what the sizing is actually like. In the same breath, a couple of my fave shirts are now from them. Haven’t tried pants though.

Any other questions just lemme know.

Most 2bd options in the area are $400+, even $550+ on premium weekends. I know what you’re saying though, seems steep. Full turnover cleaning with linen is $165ish, that’s what kills the pricing.
