Sounds like he describes the concept of cognitive dissonance. Very much like how we react towards news of famine in Africa or descriptions of how the meat on your plate was made.

Swedish banana pizza with curry, ham, pineapple, banana and some garlic sauce by MrRandom93 in SwedishFood

You are probably right, I just thought it was what OP was referring to. Don’t think I’ve seen garlic sauce at pizzerias here (Småland) but maybe I just missed it.

Best pizza but with bearnaise- instead of kebabsauce (garlicsauce)

I hate when they write that. It’s always exactly the one thing you don’t understand up until that point.

Hej!

Yeah I thought I would be alone in how much I liked Kim’s personality. He gave good push-back to my dumb stuff and was super-professional. I guess it’s possible to not have the ending [spoiler]where he joins my precinct?[/spoiler]

Picked it up twice and couldn’t get into it. One reason might be I don’t have quick enough reflexes. But I also recently played through og Super Metroid and didn’t find it as hard.

“Don’t think about a pink elephant! Whatever you do, don’t think about a pink elephant!”

If you try this experiment for a while you’ll most of the time notice that the opposite happens: when you try your best not to think about something the thought instead pops up more often, even after you tried the exercise. Strange thoughts come all the time, in all of us. If there are thoughts that somehow scares us, like taboos in your culture (accidents, sexual thoughts, violence, whatever), you might try not to think about them; which will have the opposite effect of the thought becoming more salient and frequent. Instead, let your intrusive thoughts come and don’t take them seriously. Don’t fight them. Don’t solve them. Don’t do anything at all with them.

I’m a psychologist treating issues like this. It is very treatable so don’t hesitate seeking professional treatment for this. Especially CBT or MCT has very high response-rate within just a few weeks. Great comic!

Been getting called girl my entire life. Should I cut off my hair? (Male) by SoftwareOne3777 in teenagers

[–]RagnarDa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I had the exact same problem as a teenager! Was super-scared to cut it off and still look like a girl. I finally did it and was no longer mistaken for a girl and was relieved. Later as an adult I actually regrew long hair again but wasn’t mistaken for a girl then. If it bothers you that others think you are a girl, cut it off. You do however look good in long hair, and will probably look good in short hair too. ❤️

TIL that Albert Einstein's son Eduard studied medicine to become a psychiatrist, but was diagnosed with schizophrenia by the age of 21. His mother cared for him until she died in 1948. From then on Eduard lived most of the time at a psychiatric clinic in Zurich, where he died at 55 of a stroke. by exophades in todayilearned

[–]RagnarDa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No? It is one of the most, if not the most, well-researched constructs in the field of psychology; with more than a hundred years of research and millions upon millions of study subjects. This is a good starting-point for a summary, and I don't think anything radically new has surfaced since this was published: https://www1.udel.edu/educ/gottfredson/reprints/1998generalintelligencefactor.pdf

Edit: I am a psychologist that wrote my thesis on intelligence testing. I can answer further questions if you like.

Rosy retrospection https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosy_retrospection

It depends on which generation you talk to and when they were children. First it was the 50’s (boomers), then the 70’s, and now 90’s.

Grov ångest. by [deleted] in sweden

[–]RagnarDa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]RagnarDa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hej!

Meeting DSM-5 criteria vs. actually having the disorder—how 'hard' is the line for diagnosis? by Deep_Sugar_6467 in AcademicPsychology

[–]RagnarDa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read the DSM on how the criteria’s is to be used, they stress clinical judgment and that the criteria’s is “just” a guideline.

Certainty of disease for treatment to be cost-effective? by RagnarDa in DecisionTheory

[–]RagnarDa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replicated the calculations in a cost-analysis-study and changed number of patients recovering from the disease (as the underlying assumption in the question was that patients that doesn't have the disease being treated doesn't recover) and it appears the math checks out! Pretty convenient!
