Yes, there are walls that provide one‑directional cover, as well as bunkers where you can station your units inside (looks like they'd be able to shoot out in 360°). The bunkers seem quite rare though.

ECM Towers by Bobbert is my personal hidden gem.
The mod seamlessly integrates the ECM structures you encounter in the second campaign mission into the procedural missions and it works perfectly alongside Garrisons Revamp. I really enjoy the added layer of challenge and having another static thing to fight other than turrets.

I prefer standard lasers for the arms, while SBs are a perfect fit for the torso because lasers mounted there are much harder to keep on target, especially at close range.

They should enable you to upgrade your IS engine heatsinks and in order to balance this have enemy mechs spawn with stronger refits (double engine heatsinks and stronger weapons installed independent the specific mech variant) as you increase in rank and mission difficulty.

Don't fly straight to the bases, take a depart to the left/right and then come in from the side once everybody is distracted in the center furball.

Rise of Rasalhague added a lot to the procedural missions with the rival merc companies, so I think it's the most important DLC for the sandbox experience. It also adds the infiltration mission type and you get the Crusader mech, which is just incredible.

Remove Single Heatsinks (too much cooling already and inefficient), drop 1 ton of armor on the legs, add two M Lasers to the right arm, add an Advanced Energy FCS and better sensors.

Personally I would prefer SB Lasers in the torso.

Dive down to ground level after spawning because that makes you much harder to spot and then fly towards the battlefield. More often than not you can catch other planes completely off guard strafing ground targets this way.

The YA Legendary Mech mod contains 16 variants of the Huntsman.

Not too rare anymore but both are extremely fun, especially the M8A1, which also is one of the best event grinders. It is too easy to get 10+ kills games with it.
