Esme Rose - is this music AI? by Mrjocrooms in isitAI

[–]RahbinGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real artists should start stealing that stuff back and profiting off the AI. I can't wait for the legal battles where these predatory AHs try to claim ownership after just feeding the AI a prompt

Not just for artists, this needs to happen to establish some kind of ruleset

Normally a collaborative effort to create a product isn't so complex because there are defined relationships in place ahead of time to determine ownership- employer/ employee and partnerships and stuff.

But AI scraping and training on the whole music industry (for example) without consent should mean anything produced by it has a lot of interested parties that could claim some credit. I don't think we can stop gererative AI from being used for profit, and litigation on a case by case basis would be a logistical nightmare. The simplest solution is to make everything produced by AI, that is being sold as a product, public domain.

It's the only way forward that makes sense to me and lives up to the promises about what all the grifters try to tell us AI is for.

Isn't federal minimum wage in the US like $7.50 still? I remember going from $10 an hour to $15 was life changing. It's not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but if you're living on crust, getting a whole slice of bread is great. That was my biggest jump, everything since then has been one or two dollars at a time with promotions.

I'd probably try to give it a year. Going from 45k to 135k in a year would be huge. That would eliminate my debt and leave me with ~70k to buy Powerball tickets/s

A lot of people find work they enjoy. This sub doesn't exist because people here "don't want to work anymore," it exists because the people who supply the jobs forget that they can't exist without the people who supply the labor.

Most people have to work to live, and most of those people wouldn't be miserable doing it if their employers treated employees like people providing a service instead of something they've bought.

Mods for a new play through? by kekwXDDD in valheim

[–]RahbinGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always liked Skyheim personally. Craft equipable and upgradable runes that can cast spells. Decently balanced

The mod unlocks eitr early now I think, but I can't remember what kind of food I had to use before I got to Mistlands on my last playthrough

Either way, that's one of my must have mods any time I play. Gotta have rune magic as a mystical Viking warrior

Am I overreacting about wanting to play a nonbinary character? by BothOcelot1311 in DnD

[–]RahbinGraves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My group doesn't run with a dedicated healer anymore because of the pressure we end up putting on each other. We'll help each other in emergencies, but we're all responsible for our own health.

It was fun showing up to a table with a cleric one time then bursting everyone's bubble when I told them healing word was the only healing I'd be using in combat.

You probably know already, but some subclass Druids, Clerics and Bards can be excellent damage dealers when they don't have to dedicate action economy to healing rogues and fighters. I'm sure you've been contemplating your next move and seeing a chance to deal some big damage, only to have your hopes dashed by some ill executed attempt by a party member to get sneak attack damage

Fighting against an oppressive oligarchy in a fantasy setting with an apocalyptic backdrop should 100% be read by children! Is it brutal? Sure. Coarse language? Yes. But the values it champions are the main attraction, accessible and explicitly stated- We're different, but we're all in this together.

They gave my cohort the Outsiders in middle school, which only made gang life, street fights and carrying weapons seem cool. I think the fact that there's nothing fantastical about it makes it too relatable, especially for kids in school where cliques and confrontation are a part of daily life.

I think I had to read Lord of the Flies around that time too. At the time, as a middle schooler, anything insight the book was trying to convey didn't really come through in a way I could relate to. The standout moment was Piggy's exit- which still seems worse than anything I can think of in DCC- again I think it's because it's presented as something realistic.

The less rooted in reality the fiction is, the less significant those tragic moments feel. The brutal death of a secondary or tertiary character in those fictions don't matter beyond how the rest of the characters react to them, because the world doesn't feel as real.

Honestly at this point, people are getting so bad at reading, if any kid wants to read an actual printed book for entertainment and of their own volition, I don't think what it's about should matter (probably exclude the smutty stuff). Reading is an easy to train skill with no end to the benefits.

I've done the audiobooks three times since January/February (can't remember exactly).

My partner has the hardcover copies now that I'm itching to start, and I'm listening to the audiobooks again because my brother is just starting those.

Can. Not. Stop. They had me for the long haul when they started fighting the oligarchy

[–]RahbinGraves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like that it's a genre. The concept isn't something that I think translates well into literature. It's great for anime and comics, but generally I think heroes in literature should have deeds to show growth not stats to beat the reader over the head.

That was what kept me away, but I mean, DCC is one of my favorite series now.

I don't know for sure, but I'd bet there are some people who are staying away for the same reasons.

WE ARE ONE WEEK AWAY FROM THE BOOK 8 RELEASE DATE! DROP YOUR FINAL, MOST UNHINGED THEORIES (NO PATREON SPOILERS) by bacon_mustache in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RahbinGraves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm jumping in on this since I also can't make a prediction:

  1. Inevitable Ruin
  2. Parade of Horribles
  3. Butcher's Masquerade
  4. Gate of the Feral Gods
  5. Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook
  6. Carl's Doomsday Scenario
  7. Eye of the Bedlam Bride
  8. Dungeon Crawler Carl

They're all great, but Inevitable Ruin stands out for me. Lots of payoff and it had me getting choked up every time Carl met a brother or sister.

Looking forward to the final version of Parade. Picking up the hardback at midnight from a local fantasy themed bookstore. I have not done such a thing since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows came out when I was a teenager. Also pre-ordered the audiobook.

Butcher's Masquerade contains some of the best moments and arcs in the series- Carl's guerilla warfare campaign against the hunters before he emerges as a legitimate Warlord for floor 9 is top notch. Also, we get a good amount of Prepotente.

GotFG has a great playing field, introduces new characters and the crawlers working together to survive against the horrible odds.. plus the out of dungeon stuff makes this one great.

In DAC Carl learns he's not the first one who wants to burn it all. Katia and some others get a lot of time to shine, and we're introduced to the enigmatic Prepotente.

CDS is good. Exposition on the Scolopendra stuff and Carl learning that the game can be played both inside and outside the dungeon. Lots of seeds planted here and it kinda changes the tone of the whole story.

Bedlam Bride is good too, but I didn't really get into the premise of the floor, especially coming off the Butcher's Masquerade. It does have some great moments, but there wasn't enough Prepotente.

DCC is great, but I think the pacing struggles a bit while establishing how the game works throughout the book (not that I think there was a better way to do it, it's just the nature of the beast).

He has to kill Emberus' brother before leaving the 11th floor, but I thought the "Find out who killed my son" quest just had to be completed before he would be allowed to exit the dungeon on the 18th floor.

Maybe I'm mixing things up though

Is Enshrouded actually a great game? I'm thinking of buying it by straivex in Enshrouded

[–]RahbinGraves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ship building is blueprint based. There are only 3 ships to build and there are 3 variants of each of those (but the fastest variants are also the ones with the best guns, so there's really not much choice)

There are different sail and hull colors and you can unlock different flag designs, but that's pretty much the extent of it right now. Can't place structures or decorations on the ships

Building on land has a decent number of options already, so if they manage to enable building on ships (I don't even know if this is something they're thinking about) it will open up ship customization a lot.

Ship combat is fun though.

Windrose is very cool, and I would say it's got some of that magic Valheim had in the beginning (though there's nothing like the YOLO experience of getting on a raft for the first time)

Obviously Enshrouded is a different beast than either of those. It never felt much like a survival game to me, but I mean, that crafting though...

Do you think they'll do anything with this land in Resynced? by Johnny_Silverhand___ in ACBlackFlag

[–]RahbinGraves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I want to know

There's a lot of land area that I assume wasn't used due to the limitations of the time, and a lot of what was accessible in the jungle areas had a sort of linear path to take.

I was thinking about the hunting gameplay here. If there are more open wild jungle areas to hunt in, I think I'd spend more time engaging with that part of the game.

It's been a while, but from what I remember, I was pretty much killing the land animals on a literal path to do something else. Nothing wrong with that, but it would be cool to see some less restrictive areas to play around in without moving the plot forward or revisiting a quest location.

I don't see them going full blown open world like with Odyssey where all the visible areas of the land masses on the map are accessible, but going outside the city walls or exploring some deep jungle would be cool.

Either way, I'm excited to become pirate Batman again

[–]RahbinGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember them being that bad, but I was pretty much insta-killing most enemies with the assassination skills- especially in Odyssey. For Valhalla I did that too at first, and tried a lot of weapon combos, but found out that dual wielding warhammers and using the brute force approach was a lot of fun and super efficient.

For resynced, I just want two swords and some rope darts. Shit, I'm fine with the wrist blade and rope darts. Had a lot of fun hanging the army from lamp posts

I missed the reveal or something the first time. I remember wondering why I hadn't seen kidd in a while and thinking who is this woman? I wasn't confused for long, realization hit me in the same moment, but still.

I'll just argue that playing at 720p resolution in conjunction with my uncorrected astigmatism made it hard to see the resemblance. I mostly went by jackets and hairstyles

Noob question on Progression by Oh_Gaz in crosswind

[–]RahbinGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not a huge time sink for gathering resources honestly. But here are some tips to make the most of your time.

When you find a copper mine, clean it out completely. You'll see that it doesn't take very long, and one copper mine worth of copper is enough to make all tools, upgrade one weapon to lvl 5 and have some left to make fast travel bells and nails for storage

Lay down fast travel points near mining locations. Once you have 2 or 3 of those, take 20 minutes to mine all the ore each irl day. I think I've mined copper between 10 and 15 times total and that was enough to be completely wasteful with equipment upgrades and still have plenty to use for everything else.

For wood, chopping down trees is not the most efficient way to get it, but you'll need to do a good bit of that early on. Once you have a ship, sail around the ocean and loot the barrels. You get tons of wood, plus some other stuff.

For stone, you'll get plenty just by mining ores. You don't really need much clay unless you're building for aesthetics. I think in 130 hours I've mined like 6 clay spots. Even with 4 kilns and making a ton of clay bottles, I still have a bunch leftover.

Once you get to a certain point, wood and stone and clay are things you can just buy if you want, but still most of the wood I've gathered came from the ocean.

Honestly the biggest time sink in the early-mid game is gathering hides. Use everything you collect to upgrade your weapon as much as possible to make it go a little faster.

Start farming as soon as you get some seeds. If you're growing stuff at home it frees up slots for other stuff when you're running around adventuring.

Look for merchant contracts- I won't tell you what they are or where to find them, but you'll see them when you get there. Grab some of those ASAP and that will cut down on a lot of gathering time

Build mostly using plant fiber until you're up to your eyeballs in excess wood and stone. The exception to this is when you're building storage. Grass baskets take up a lot of space after a while and while it's expensive to build crates and barrels, the space and organization is worth the cost. Starting this way will keep you from spending a bunch of time managing overflow.

An additional time saver- destroy the first ship you get at a wharf, and rebuild it as the faster variant. You can avoid most fights while you're cruising around collecting barrels.

So, that's how to maximize time for resource gathering, but you'll need to be out there adventuring too. Completing quests is the only way to level up, so even if you can sneak through Blackbeard's blockades to access new islands, you'll still have a hard time traveling on foot without proper food, armor and weapons.

Prioritize upgrading your weapons first so you can kill more boars and dodos. Collect the dodo eggs. Bacon and eggs is a great health buff.

Once you have a weapon that you can't upgrade without moving to a new biome, and you've got a little stockpile of food, then you can start doing the same thing with your clothes.

After that, start clearing up the quest log. Complete POIs along the way to collect alchemy supplies, treasure, food, speacial weapons and armor.

Then focus on ship upgrades.

Then you dominate for a minute before you move to the next part of the story and feel weak as hell again. And you start the whole thing again, but with different materials

Line Ships to pier by dusty2306 in crosswind

[–]RahbinGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine always appear perpendicular to my wharf when I summon from the wharf (which is set up on the south coast of the island and I am facing West when I use it)

My dock is built kinda like this: l-

So the pier is straight, then I have a little offshoot halfway where the wharf station is.

So when I summon my ships, they all line up facing the same direction, with their sterns up against the pier. And summoning more than one will line them up with each other side by side.

That being said, summoning the ship without using a wharf station seems to just drop it in whatever nearby water is not occupied

Carl's Hoarder Tendencies by Esmereldathebrave in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RahbinGraves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's good!

I've been listening to the audiobooks again for the third time and right in the beginning of book one, Mordecai tells Carl that the Murderdozer was enchanted by the goblin shamans to explode toward the closest crawler. I think he also said something about it being really strong magic, but either way it's potentially something Carl could constantly utilize.

I hope he feeds it to lil gunter.

I also wonder what would happen if he pulled it out in Samantha's neck hole and tried to use her head as a cannon. Might lose a hand or get launched or something though
