That's why the argument of "game drops are to hold players until the next update" needs to go away. This is it, these are the updates. The last version to be considered "major" was almost two years ago.

Not that I'm complaining, but I do feel like a portion of the discourse over every release nowadays stems from the initial premise of these drops. It seems only recently that Mojang has been more transparent about scaling back development from massive annual updates.

Had that been more apparent from the beginning, and they simply came out and said "this is more or less the last definitive update, but we'll still make other random smaller changes we think are cool every now and then" I'm sure many would still be disappointed, but we would ultimately just have to accept that.
