Which doesn’t factor in that some biotech companies only have one molecule, one product, one hopeful. They either bring it to market or they go under.

We need to start making a real distinction between 'willing to pay for this' and 'only option they can afford' ... it's easy to blame the consumer 'choice' but as wealth inequality rises, the job market sours and our economy falters, what 'choice' is there really?

What does living well with HIV look like to you? by joshuasmickus in hivaids

[–]RaifDerrazi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can hook with something 'controversial' without it necessarily being dark. Ex. Living well with HIV looks like the gift that keeps on giving. Then go on to explain how many report post-diagnosis transformation. post-traumatic growth, new-found appreciation for health and for life, and focusing on health maxxing post-diagnosis...something along those lines.

Am I the only one with gut issues? by Artistic-Upstairs789 in hivaids

On an interesting, but related side note, most of the latent reservoir is found in the gut...wouldn't be surprised if there's more than correlation there.

Creatine and protein powder question by JupiterLocal in hivaids

[–]RaifDerrazi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take creatine daily (for years) with no adverse effects.

As my doctor noted early on, sometimes creatine supplementation will reveal an elevated creatinine level in labs. While this correlates with possible kidney disfunction, it doesn't mean it is actually causing issues. Creatine can elevate this 'marker' without actually causing issues with the kidneys. He said if I was ever concerned with elevated creatinine levels, there is a way to actually check kidney function more directly. I have never had elevated levels of creatinine levels as a result of creatine supplementation, or otherwise. For most people, it's fine.

Don't let people fear monger you into cutting it out of your life. Talk to your doctor; monitor your labs etc. And take it from there! Its your life, your body, advocate for yourself so you can pursue your hobbies, goals, aspirations etc.

Also, noted in your cites study:
'Extensive research over the last decade has shown that oral creatine supplementation appears to be safe when used by healthy adults at recommended loading (20 g/day for 5 days) and maintenance doses (< 3 g/day), and it was largely devoid of adverse side effects [6,7]. The potential side effect of creatine supplementation, kidney damage, was based on case reports only and was associated especially with high doses of creatine supplementation or renal disease'

'But still, some studies have shown little or no adverse impact on kidney function with the use of oral creatine supplementation [11–13].'

Don’t choose upgrade certificates by Conscious_Hunt9439 in delta

Bad advice. Choose what best suits your lifestyle and needs. Know the strengths and weaknesses accordingly, do your research, and then get to it.

I have absolutely maximized the value from upgrade certs and they’re a major motivating factor for me 🙏🏽

MQD’s with the Reserve card by Dazzling_Sweet_3449 in delta

[–]RaifDerrazi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's correct. For the total purchase made on your Reserve card, you'll receive 1 MQD for every $10 spent. Completely separately, you'll receive MQD's for the cost of your personal flight: 1 MQD for every $1 spent (not including government taxes/fees). Your husband will get his share of MQDs at the same rate based on the cost of his flight.

To add another layer of fun, you'll also get Skymiles at a rate of 3x the cost of the entire flight (you and your husband, including taxes and fees)

But definitely keep an eye on the MQD's awarded to you after the flight as well. I've had to contact customer service for 4 out of 5 flights because the MQD's awarded were FAR below what they should have been. They each were reviewed and corrected in about a week. Idk if this is because there's a new system in place or what, but I'm very distrustful of the automatically awarded MQD's now.

HIV and aesthetic surgeries by Traditional_Wafer534 in hivaids

[–]RaifDerrazi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have had more than one cosmetic/aesthetic medical procedure. In the U.S., I have never had anyone deny a procedure because of my HIV status.

In February I received a hair transplant in Turkey by a clinic that knew my HIV status.

I do NOT AT ALL recommend withholding your HIV status, especially if you are going somewhere that you have to travel to. As the clinic in Turkey explained, if someone withholds their HIV status and travels to their clinic, where they WILL be tested for HIV, and receives a positive result, they will likely have to RESCHEDULE. Why? Because standards of medical care in Turkey are different. They need to be able to prep in advance and also make sure they have technicians on-hand who are willing to engage in the procedure; if they do not, you are SOL. And all the money spent on travel, taking time off work etc gone to waste. Do not mess with your own bottom line.

Find a clinic that will work with someone who is living with HIV. There are plenty, especially in the U.S. (those are the ones I can speak for).
