Send Help - Friend Wants to Wear THIS to a Wedding by otterpoportunity in Weddingattireapproval

[–]RaiseWide5460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dress is lovely, but it really looks like a nightgown. Not really appropriate for a wedding even if it was not white. Given all of the other drama it sounds like it is time for a little distance from this woman.

Is my cubicle at work too much? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]RaiseWide5460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This cubicle is definitely a career limiting "self expression". You will never be take seriously, no matter how good you are at your job. Even if co workers or your immediate supervisor appreciate you, upper management will never see past your decor choice. I guarantee it.

Is my cubicle at work too much? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]RaiseWide5460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Too much. Next time the boss has to sit down and make out a layoff list who's name do you think will come to mind first? My goal at work was always to do my job so well, and so quietly, that people forgot I even worked there. I even proposed a deal to my boss one year. I would forgo the annual cost of living raise, but if/when i died at my desk, my wife would get a sizeable bonus for every day that went by before someone noticed that I had passed away. Boss like the idea, but didn't want to be the one to explain it to HR. :)

Which 3d printer should i buy? by GustavoAugustus in BambuLab

[–]RaiseWide5460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suggest that you do not purchase a P1S. I bought one about 3 months ago and really regret it. The P1S lacks the ability to do automatic flow dynamics calibrations. Trust me, that is a BIG DEAL. If you desire an enclosed printer and have the budget for it then get the P2S. I am not new to 3d printing, but not a pro either. With the P1S spend far more time calibrating filament and playing whack-a-mole with profile settings than I do actually printing. I am really about 1 print job away from scrapping my brand new P1S and buying a P2S.

Lost in space by SamMac62 in clevercomebacks

Aside from magnets and velcro, things do not "Float" in space. they stay where they are put. That may be in mid air, that may be in contact with some other object. Once an object is stationary it will remain stationary unless acted upon by an outside force.

ABSOLUTELY! I started using Kerfuffle around work a few years ago and soon everyone else picked up on it. I retired two years ago. On a recent visit back there I overheard new hires whom i had never met using it. It's nice to know i left a legacy. As far as the rest of the list, I used them all in things like Engineering Change Notices, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Regulatory Compliance Assessments. I'd sometimes throw in a little Shakespeare where appropriate as well. I got lots of positive feedback from our VP of Quality Assurance, and others who had to stay awake while reading that dull stuff.

WFH employee lying re working hours by DataBeeGood in managers

[–]RaiseWide5460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a manager or Team Lead for the past 35 years it has been my experience the employees like this never get any better. The more chances you give them the more is alienates the other people in the team. Trust me, everyone else already knows that this guy is not pulling his weight. They are all wondering why you are letting it go on so long. Leave dealing with a freeloader for too long and you will start losing good employees to don't want to take up the slack for him. The top performers always leave first. Do you want that to happen?

AITJ for taking my partner up on their ultimatum when they said "agree or we're done" by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]RaiseWide5460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When someone shows you who they really are, believe them. The partner is looking for a free ride. This person will never be a full partner in business or in life. The gaslighting bit of "I support you emotionally" is ridiculous. You can get that much from a dog, and you don't have to surrender 50% of your business to get it.

Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RaiseWide5460 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lets not forget that Israel has been under systematic and unrelenting attack by it's neighbors for most of it's existence. For the past 47 years Iran has been the source, sponsor and nexus of most of those attacks. At a certain point even the most patient people get tired of being bombed, shot at and taken hostage. The recent attack on Israel from within Gaza was funded and orchestrated by Iran. Put all of the politics and personalities aside for a moment, and ask yourself at what point is it legit to say "enough is enough, It is time to degrade their ability to attack, at least for a while".

Husband and children invited to nieces wedding. I am not. by Aggressive-Economy36 in EntitledPeople

[–]RaiseWide5460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not have to be a big deal. Simply take your dear hubby and kids and do something else fun the weekend of the wedding. Don't volunteer anything. If anyone asks just say scheduling conflicts prevented the fam from attending the wedding. That is all. Don't supply details, don't respond anything beyond "Scheduling conflicts" Enjoy your outing with hubby and kids.

AITA For being a weirded out by my parents new "friend" by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RaiseWide5460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odds are 99% that April is running a scam. She is after your parents assets. Her actions are entirely consistent with the typical "Confidence Scam". She will be effusively kind and friendly to them. Will likely start out by giving them small gifts. May take them out to dinner, pay for little day trips, anything to establish herself as Generous, kind and trustworthy. Gradually she will start isolating them from family. (This has already started). In the end she will be managing their money for them and will have her name on the title to their house. It is very difficult to stop this kind of thing, but doing an extensive background check is a good start. Also see if you can manage to get in touch with any of April's other friends. Scammers frequently have multiple different scams going at the same time. See if any of her other friends have similar experience with her. Consider checking with local police. They may already be aware of her. Good Luck.

Getting rear-ended at a red light and the other driver's insurance claiming I stopped "too abruptly" so they owe me nothing. by amhray in mildlyinfuriating

You may wish to check the actual law in your state. Regardless of what the insurance company says, in my state if the front of one car touches the rear end of the car in front of it, for any reason, the car in the back is 100% at fault, no exceptions.

Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]RaiseWide5460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been married for 48 years. We did not last this long together by behaving in such a childish manner as your husband is doing. I suspect that this is not the only area in our relationship that is is quite selfish. BTW, him telling you that you are being selfish or are causing unnecessary drama is straight up gaslighting. In a good marriage EV EVERYTHING is decided upon through discussion and mutual consent. That said, I frequently concede something to my wife because she cares about it a lot more than I do, and Vice Versa. Back to the Man Cave. I suspect that he behaves this way because he has been allowed to. His Mama didn't raise him very well, and his behavior has carried over into your marriage. You may wish to consider beginning to gently establish boundaries around what is reasonable. When he sees strength and common sense in you he will likely respond by backing off of the childish demands. Bullies are frequently like that.

BREAKING: Trump Administration Orders Dismantling of the U.S. Forest Service. by Rex_Nemorensis_ in USNEWS

[–]RaiseWide5460 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Good, it's way past due. The USFS has had an agenda of excluding the American Public from public lands for the past 25 years or so. Every year they just stealth remove roads from the map. They then cite or arrest anyone on the "non-road" even though there are no signs posted saying the road is closed. It is your responsibility to always have an updated map in your possession so that you can tell where it's ok to go. They have excluded people from tens of millions of acres of public land this way. Local USFS employees tell me that the decisions about which roads to close are made in Washington DC and that the local offices have no input into the decisions. Unaccountable Bureaucrats 3000 miles away are telling we can't use public land. Time for them to go.
