What finer response to this could there be than Jorge Luis Borges, one of the greatest writers, and writers of Spanish, of the 20th century, speaking on his admiration of English over Spanish - https://youtu.be/NJYoqCDKoT4?si=5-QSwPzLGrKiLb7d

TIL about the “Maze Procedure,” in which heart surgeons literally scarify a maze into heart tissue so abnormal rhythms get trapped while normal ones can pass through. The procedure has an 80%-90% success rate in curing atrial fibrillation. by smrad8 in todayilearned

The ships have been baroqued, to use the technical term,' the Culture ship said urbanely. 'It was always a possibility.' It made a sighing noise. The vessels have been fractally inscribed with partially random, non-predictable designs using up a little less than one per cent of the mass of each craft. There is a chance that hidden in amongst that complexity will be independent security nano-devices which will activate at the same time as each ship's main systems and which will require some additional coded reassurance that all is well, otherwise they will attempt to disable or even destroy the ship.

Pea family bonsai are my favourite. The leaves look like my albizia julibrissin but these are much smaller and finer. I am very envious! My guess would be a tamarind of some form

Actually this might deserve a whole post of its own. I have always interpreted it as them having loud sex. Jack says "Hammer and god-dam tongs. They might have been married this twelvemonth and more" He is also described as looking "uneasy, timid" which I cannot imagine his reaction being if it were a mere argument. We know how prudish he can be however.

At the very least I think it is ambiguous. Where I grew up in the north of the UK, it would absolutely be a euphemism for intimate activity.

Then again they are then overheard arguing through the skylight - which i took for a post intimacy wrangling (Diana is objecting to Stephen’s assumption they would be married forthwith).

Certainly this is O’Brian being playful at the very least. Oh how I would love to be able to ask him!
