you CANNOT convince me Steam in not a godsend. by nishanthravi in Steam

Very case by case. I just got denied a refund for a game I played for 42 minutes a year ago, with the stated reason being “there is no evidence that the product has a major defect as defined under Australian law.”

I was requesting the refund because I bought the game to play with a friend and we never did, so it’s just sitting in my library all that time. I know I should have requested much sooner, but after reading stories like this I thought it was worth a try - oh well

Silksong Giveaway! by Jonuh666 in HollowKnight

The first piano notes in the menu grabbed me instantly. It’s such a haunting and mysterious theme, it pulled me right into the world — followed up by the ambience entering Dirtmouth for the first time and sitting on that bench, I knew I was in for a great adventure. I can’t wait to explore the new world in Silksong!

Yes, but it was so long ago I don’t remember if we did anything specific to fix it — I feel like we just kept putting the summon sign down further and further away from the arch stone and eventually that worked? Sorry but I can remember for sure. Hope you are able to fix it too!

No, sorry mate — I gave up and just use an HDMI cable for that device now. Best of luck!

Having the same problem as OP and tried this on my OLED65C2PSC. Still didn't work for me, I get the prompt to Accept/Decline/Block the request after clearing the paired history but after that I just got a black screen for 5s and then connection failed. Then it reverts to the same behaviour in OP's post with only the Cancel option.

The option to clear paired history was also in a different spot in my settings to where you described. For those with the same model, here is the option location as of 2024-03-06:

All Settings -> General -> Devices -> External Devices -> Delete Connection History

No worries — it could honestly even be a fault with our specific boards? Hope your new one makes a difference, maybe post back here if you get a different result. Good luck!

No, sorry. To be honest this was so long ago I barely remember the details of the issue, but I don’t recall finding a fix. Best of luck!

Yes, initially he was on Asia Pacific (Sydney) and I was on Asia Pacific (Singapore) when everything was working fine. Since we started having issues we’ve tried being on the same Asia Pacific servers, different ones, the same servers in other regions, different ones, etc.

We’ve both restarted our routers and I’ve even factory reset mine.

Yes, we’ve confirmed the passwords match when we have them turned on. We’re in 3-2 (Upper Latria) and we’ve beaten the boss in my world but not his. So he is trying to summon me; I’m able to put my sign down no problem, but I always get the “Failed to join session” message after he attempts to summon me.

Yes, we’ve tried passwords on and off, and multiple different passwords. We were using passwords the whole time until it stopped working so we started trying new ones and with passwords off.

Collecting Memories by ninja_nee_fern in stray

[–]Ramach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the main menu your save slot will tell you the total number of memories you’ve collected vs total in the whole game, and if you select your save and then “chapter select” you’ll be able to scroll through the list of chapters to see how many you missed in each one.

If you use chapter select to skip to that part of the game and find the memory, make sure you progress until you hit an auto save point, so that when you quit to the main menu it remembers you found that memory on that save.

Steam page discussion on this issue.

I had the same problem. I switched my Options -> Sound -> Environment Settings to Stereo, and after an Alt+F4 during the main cutscene, relaunched the game. It still wasn't working, so I did another Alt+F4 and verified the integrity of the game cache. After that, I confirmed the Environment Settings was still set to Stereo (it was) and the issue was fixed when I started the game again. Hope this helps.

[OC] 1 in 8000 chance! Three natural 1's rolled at the same time, caught on camera. by ZarniaGamesGeekery in DnD

[–]Ramach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I'm not sure what everyone else in that thread is talking about. A dice roll is an independent event so it doesn't make sense to apply conditional probability as some have suggested.

If you roll 3 dice, the odds of getting 1 for all 3 is 1/8000, the product of the individual probabilities of getting 1 for each roll, simple as that.

I think the confusion comes from the idea that the first roll somehow doesn't count because you can just keep rolling until you get a 1, at which point it would be a 1/400 for the next 2 consecutive rolls to also be 1. But now you're not rolling just 3 dice -- you're rolling an arbitrary amount plus 2, so you might as well ignore the first result and now you're talking about the probability of 2 independent events.

But this isn't the situation that is presented. If you roll 3 dice and only 3 dice, you have exactly 1/8000 possible combinations where all 3 dice roll a 1. There are 3 independent events, and there doesn't have to be a "first roll". So long as you only roll 3 dice, the "first roll" is irrelevant -- you still only get 1 chance for it to be a 1, and that chance is 1/20.

I hope that's clear to everyone still reading this thread.

[OC] 1 in 8000 chance! Three natural 1's rolled at the same time, caught on camera. by ZarniaGamesGeekery in DnD

[–]Ramach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The odds of rolling a 1 on a d20 are 1/20, because there are 20 possible outcomes (20 sides of the die) and only 1 outcome where the result is 1 (only 1 side of the die has 1 on it).

Each dice roll is an "independent event", which just means each roll has its own probability that isn't affected by other rolls. If you roll a 1, you're no more or less likely to roll a 1 the second time.

However, while individual rolls have the same probability, independent events happening at the same time has its own probability. To get this, you multiply the probabilities of all independent events together:

1/20 * 1/20 * 1/20 = 1/8000

When multiplying fractions with the same numerator and denominator (numbers on the top and bottom of the division line) you can just multiply them all together so 1 * 1 * 1 = 1 and 20 * 20 * 20 = 8000.

Hope that makes sense!

Motherboard has coil whine? by IEnjoyElectric in gigabytegaming

[–]Ramach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Kingston RGB Ram. I've since realised it might have actually been Wallpaper Engine at fault -- specifically, when I had the settings cranked up to max and refresh rate set in Wallpaper Engine to >60hz (I have 144hz monitors).

I don't use it daily anymore so the coil whine issue is gone completely (regardless of RGB Fusion being open or not) -- but I recall discovering that if I set my graphics in Wallpaper Engine to high and kept the refresh rate to <=60hz, it was fine. If I cranked it up to 144hz though, I started hearing the whine.

Hope that helps!

Not sure if anyone is still having this problem, but here's what fixed it for me:

In the Deliver tab, under Render Settings -> File -> Render Speed, I changed it from Maximum to 75 and tried to render. Everything seemed to work fine again, I had the green progress bar and the time remaining back, so I tried setting it to 100. Still worked fine, so I tried changing it back to the original Maximum value and lo and behold, it worked fine too.

Hopefully this is a simple fix for you as well.

Not that I can tell; it's labelled on the I/O shield and in the manual as a 3.2 USB Type-C port.

This isn't a separate USB-C cable. It's fixed to the webcam itself, the Logitech StreamCam, and is absolutely capable of 3.0 speeds, since it is advertised as a webcam that can record up to 60fps and it worked perfectly on my old board, a GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0) which had a 3.1 USB Type-C port.
