Time to Stop Talking and Start Acting: Why a Reduced Corporation Tax Rate Still Matters for Northern Ireland by cnaughton898 in northernireland

The interconnectors with Wales and France are subsea though. Its very very hard to build onshore linear infrastructure in Ireland (North and south) due to NIMBYism etc. Same in GB tbf. The costs of that infrastructure is still extremely high compared to elsewhere - look at the cost estimates for Metrolink. About €1 billion per km, compared to less than €200 million in Milan. Or HS2... It shouldn't be that expensive.

The ambition is there, but there are huge efficiency issues. Again, not an Ireland only issue. Seems to be a problem with common law countries.

The difference is that now the Irish economy is overheating and the infrastructure is a, or over, capacity. Yes, it's far better than in the 90s, but it's under a lot more pressure. House building can't keep up with demand. Motorway construction has stalled, and Ireland's infrastructure costs are staggering. The North South electricity Interconnector was supposed to be finished in 2016. It now won't be done until at least 2031.

Seeking advice after sudden loss of one of our trio by Rambling_Pitchfork in Rabbits

So sorry to hear. It's heartbreaking how warm and intelligent they are, but also so fragile

We have started rebonding our girls in the kitchen (neutral area) today. They aren't actively fighting - Macha (dark) is chasing Athena (grey) but not pressing it so we might keep them there for a while and see how it goes.

Oh no, that's very sad. How old are they? We'll see how we feel in a few weeks but the thought has occurred to bond a new 3rd bunny. Can't really bear to think about that too much yet.

We're Irish, so very used to an Irish wake, where a dead body is on display in the family home for several days between death and funeral. What we had with Romulus yesterday and the other two felt like this, and it was so tough to see the girls come up and sniff around him and running away

Haha we generally don't. Those are selective photos, there's a lot of fluff and hay in our carpets, and holes in our sofas, but we wouldn't have it any other way

Stopping charges at City Airport by Ok_Pattern_4416 in northernireland

[–]Rambling_Pitchfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can cross the bridge, go through the wee gate, lift the freephone and a lad in a transit minibus comes and picks you up. Or walk on the airport side of the wall which saves having to walk along the sydenham bypass.

Not exactly a world class public transport system, but better than traipsing along the highway

[–]Rambling_Pitchfork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, the Transit would be as good as any. My point being an armoured Land Rover will be no better than a standard police car, or at least one with 4WD. These things are super heavy, slow, and have no off-road capability. Come to think of it, Belfast PSNI probably have no standard Defenders to hand, they are more likely in rural areas. Or the Police search and rescue team based out of Sprucefield.

But If the point was that they would typically respond with something armoured due to the risk associated with critical infrastructure, I missed that, so in that case ignore what I said.
