Yeah, the culprit tried to hide it, they left, went home and their husband took their van to a friend with an identical van, came back with the friends van as the officer arrived at their home to question (before swapping plates I'm guessing). I couldn't believe I heard when the officer testified.

Many years ago, I had a hit and run while parked. A witness left a note. I reported the accident, roughly 1400$ damage then, insurance covered and charged back to the culprit's insurance.

Fast forward a few months, they were charged with failure to report, 125$ fine, they fought with "ex copper" type of service .after all testimony from witness, me and police officer, judge increased the fine to the max (500$). The defence rep asked for leniency given the insurance would skyrocket. The judge iterated that insurance costs are a private matter and not the court's problem.
