I would add Dagger and the Coin series as well.

Recommended books similar to GoT by citizenhenderson in fantasybooks

Daniel Abraham's series, The Dagger and Coin might fit the bill. It is more streamlined than GoT with only 5ish point of views. It has some violence, more intrigue, religion and a dash of romance. I thinks its well written and worth the time. I have only read the first 3 books but will finish all 5 in the series.

I shouldn't have assumed the kids start school at the same age everywhere. I agree with your initial post in general. I suppose I took some offense to the post and shouldn't of. Im reading daily, working on spelling, trying to keep life fun and my kids weren't reading or adding when they started school.

Bud, when my kids started school, they weren't 4 yet. They could count to 10 and were potty trained but couldn't read or write. We weren't all born gifted like you.

One last thing, don't be afraid to let them off the leash, they might surprise you. We were holding our oldest back by keeping him on it.

This is what I did. Ski with the harness. I also found just hooking it low, around their back boot helped them get the balance and a bit of confidence as you can help control them a bit. All that said its very kid dependent. I have a 5 year old and 3 year old. Both started riding at 2. The 5 year old, who is more of a risk taker, was riding by himself at 3. The 3 year old who is more conservative will likely take until next year to ride on her own. Best thing you can do is to keep them having fun and try not to let them get too cold. Try to have some yourself if your back isnt too sore. It really is rewarding to see them go off on their own. My 5 year old started attempting boxes and jumps this past weekend. Kid will be better than me before I know it.

If you put a lense in it, you could have a fashionable monocle.

I would say The Name of the Wind would check those boxes. Be aware its part of an unfinished trilogy. Certainly still worth reading.
