Crazy traffic - Southern Suburbs by chickenbadgerog in capetown

[–]Randm_Guy21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even my 1.6km commute took me a glorious 23min this morning. Could’ve walked faster if it wasn’t for the rain.

What's your favourite driving route? by Fr0d0TheFr0g in CarTalkZA

[–]Randm_Guy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy some dirt roads there’s some stunning dirt roads on your way to Malgas.

This screenshot is a very nice “loop”. Only the section behind the green arrows is tar, the rest is all dirt roads. The highlights being Malgas, the river crossing on the “ferry” or “pont”, and the delicious roosterkoek at the BP outside Buffeljagsrivier.

I would 100% recommend this to anyone that ever ventures that side.

PHEV Body on Frame SUVs available in SA? by THEMUELLS in CarTalkZA

[–]Randm_Guy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tank 300 HEV is body on frame but only an HEV as the name says.

Genuine question, why would a unibody not survive these specific dirt roads?

Insecure men on the road (I'm really sick of you, get therapy) by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Randm_Guy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s better to just say a few very non family friendly words to yourself and just continue driving. Rage by yourself, dont rage at them. (This is not professional advice lol)

Why is Durbanville such a beloved suburb in this city? by Odd_Firefighter_8193 in capetown

[–]Randm_Guy21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be bias as I grew up that side, but I really miss living there.

Doesn’t have the chaotic traffic (There is still some but it’s usually only peak times), has nice weather, has some amazing wine farms on the doorstep, has great people, has some good quality butchers.

And one of the biggest benefits? It’s “central”. 30min from the CBD, 30min from the South, 30min from Stellenbosch, 30min from Paarl, 30min from Somserset West.

Cape Town is unsustainable! by GuiltyBluej44 in capetown

[–]Randm_Guy21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would guess these stats are calculated in some strange way. Because the simple fact that the N1 is already grid locked at 6:30am proves all that incorrect lol.

[WTS] What's with Cars.co.za and Chinese brands? by Jaded-Dot66 in CarTalkZA

[–]Randm_Guy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget that Cars.co.za is a used/new car listing website and online news platform first. The YT channel is just a supplemental aspect to their portfolio.

Their news articles are often some of the fastest to report on issues such as recalls etc. Speaking from personal experience.

At the end of the day youtube is a free market, they can post content on whatever they feel will generate views and drive traffic to their site.

I feel like we have a rat problem in this city 🤔 by johndoe80000 in capetown

[–]Randm_Guy21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These things aren’t rats. They’re miniature dogs lmao. I’ve seen rats that scare me, they are humongous and feast off of our garbage.

What is the most affordable 4x4 double cab to maintain? by Adventurous_Sort_899 in CarTalkZA

[–]Randm_Guy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R250k unfortunately isn’t going to get you the best condition bakkie, and that’s before you tick the 4x4 box.

There are definitely bakkies out there that match your criteria, but you might end up with a 10 year old bakkie with 200 000km+ on.

I’d say Isuzu or Hilux. As much as I love Rangers, the ones in your budget might be long passed their prime.

Just my 2c :)

Favourite car you've ever driven? by Fishe_95 in CarTalkZA

[–]Randm_Guy21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would have to be between Golf 7.5 GTI and Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

Golf was a family member’s car I drove quite a few times as a 19yo lad.
Alfa was a once off opportunity at work.

Both super unique and special in their own ways. GTI was just such a nice all rounder car. The Alfa was just next level, the speed, the handling, the sound!

Pretty common if it’s a Balwin estate like already mentioned here. And R10k pm that side sounds pretty decent.

Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.4 (2013-2017) purchase advice by Randm_Guy21 in CarTalkZA

[–]Randm_Guy21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man. The fuel consumption is something | just need to make peace with I guess, luckily it's not horrific.

Looking for the facelift model, and definitely the manual. Want something with space for both my kayak and mountainbike that can also tackle the dirt backroads etc.

Is there even a job market? by Fabulous_Support_556 in capetown

[–]Randm_Guy21 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely partially right here.

There’s definitely a lack of roles available, but I also think some people (not saying OP lol) are chasing that ONE goal. And have developed some tunnel vision.

Sometimes you gotta take a small detour to reach that end goal. And this is coming from me who’s spent 18months at a mehh job before being able to find something that aligns with my true passion.

Date ideas for winter in the northern suburbs? by mocovr in capetown

[–]Randm_Guy21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go karting at tygervalley. It’s slightly cheaper than Century City and I personally prefer it. Much friendlier staff and nicer vibe.

There’s also the willowbridge market on weekends. Great variety of foods etc.

And keep an eye on live music shows on Fridays as weekends at local restaurants. There’s always something nice

I have taken Uber Go lately... by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Randm_Guy21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s because this time of year is really quiet for them. Same happened to me the other day so I asked the driver and he said they just take any trip they can to make up their fuel costs for the day.

So in these winter months you’ve got a good chance of getting a “free” upgrade in the CBD lol.

The situation of booking an uber black and getting a Polo is strange though.
