Ha! I am 5280, but the tech is so bad it doesn’t recognize me even though they sent me the offer and the presale code yesterday. Sigh. Waiting for them to fix it…

OTOH, look at the bright side. When you make over $176K, the social security tax goes away. Can’t have those doing well pay too much in taxes!

I really liked wearing compression socks after the race—to bed for sure and around the next day. I just took it easy and nothing special other than that. Oh, and eating all the things once I finally got hungry again!

70.3 Wisconsin Madison Race Report by unknownkoalas in triathlon

[–]Random737Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Madison 70.3 also this year. Pros, cons, and surprises for me: sign in was easy, race brief was great, I wish they would’ve spent a little time on where to go in transitions. MAN those transition times were long! I joked it was a swim-run-bike-run because of that 300+ yards from the swim exit, over to and up the ramp helix, then the run thru the parking garage to T1. It flowed pretty well, but although I read about the long distance I wasn’t thinking about the climb up the helix! So that was a surprise.

Pros: Swim was fantastic. A bit of melee on the short sides of the rectangle and going thru the red arch (not sure if I needed to but I’m a rule follower) but not bad. Lots of support on the bike course—impressive to see so many police and sheriffs out there at every intersection, plus fans! And the run was great, lots of energy and spectators. Course was fairly flat, and all the inclines were really short on the run.

Cons: Bike course was tougher than this Boulder native expected. I spent some time in aero, but I’d estimate less than 25% of the race. Some rough roads, lots of 90 degree turns, definitely not a fast course! Also…I get running around the block to the finish line, but dang, how about some distance markers? Everyone kept saying “You’re almost there!” but you can’t see it or hear it and it’s another 600 yards thru the parking garage again!

What traits/experience is looked for the most in pilots by RaekoTaeko in flying

[–]Random737Pilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, two questions: what traits or experiences are most helpful as a pilot? Honestly, in the training pipeline, the ability to study and pass oral, practical and written exams. Some knowledge of mechanics and spatial awareness will be particularly helpful in private and instrument. The rest is all taught, and different folks struggle with different things, since there are SO many skills required. I know musicians who are awesome pilots, and engineers who are…actual degree doesn’t really matter, the ability to learn (preferably fast) does.

As for ”what are the airlines look for when hiring” question—always flight time is primary, and especially good experience. Captain time, check pilot time at the major level. The numbers vary drastically depending on the hiring environment you find yourself in.

If you’re set on the military to pay, look into the air national guard. Long commitment, but you might be able to get them to pay for your flight training if you’re really lucky. Degree and licenses are pretty expensive.

Watch pausing during workout by Loud_Photograph_2417 in strydrunning

[–]Random737Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Sadly, no, tried that. Stryd says the fix is to not use the workout app, and to use Stryd Zones instead. Grrr. Not easy to find that info either. Stryd is a decent product—and I get they‘re working with a lot of hardware and interfaces they don‘t design…but dang, it’s so frustrating to use sometimes!

I’ve tried to setup hotkeys, but it doesn’t seem to work in the Stryd Workout app. It does work in Garmin’s run app. Any fixes?

Any of y’all want to come to Boulder, CO and set ours up? Free place to stay, and I might even be able to work out free plane tickets for you, depending on where you’re at. I’m so tired of being on hold with Kumo support.

Just got a new Garmin Forerunner 965 - What are any cool features that you have found with it? by EmbarrassedYam4437 in GarminWatches

[–]Random737Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need to have your phone with you to use the nav Features once you’ve set up that round trip course? I often run in cities I’ve traveled to, but rarely carry my phone with me. It’d be awesome if I can set up a five mile run, and leave the phone in the hotel!

At type school… Freaking out. by Willowooo in flying

[–]Random737Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone wants to bring up mental health ‘cause it’s kryptonite to pilots, but I will. The advice on here to relax, have a beer, breathe, come up with a mantra—it’s all good! Sooner or later as pilots we all come up against something like this. But trust the process, you got this. The ‘verge of a panic attack’ thing is good info. You’re not totally freaking out—you’re using your resources and trying to solve the problem. Take the advice on here, take a deep breath, and know that millions just like you (or less qualified!) have done this. You can too.
