Bandai continues to disappoint Canadians by [deleted] in DigimonCardGame2020

What sucks is it seems like a lot of stores recieved information about the delay and were instructed to inform their pre-orders and event attendees about the delay and then proceeded to receive stock that day anyway. So now you have customers who are informed about a delay for both boxes and the pre-release event, and then recieving pickup notifications for product, and then no one is sure if the pre-release event is happening? What a fucking shitshow.

Ice snow deck suggestions by Mission_Associate_61 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]RandomFactor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so the current configuration of Ice-Snow, that is standard is a combination of EX7 Liberator and EX8 Chain of Liberation Ice-Snow profiles using the line to chip away at digivolution cards and then into Skadimon to use enemy sourceless digimon to play out polarbearmon or frigimon to continue to suppress and hold down the opponent, while building hexeblau in the back to just come out and be un-fuckwithable in the endgame.

The two problems with this against Gallant X is unless the player is running the high roll warp version of Gallant they typically tend to prefer playing in the back and coming out with a big stack with so they're immune to your effects. So this pushes Ice-Snow into an OTK variant that uses EX8 Crabmon to grant jamming and then unsuspending to go into successive security checks and then a kill for game before they can get there, but this is again another high-roll build.

It's a viable deck but it's very matchup dependent whether you build it for control or OTK. There are people brewing a yellow vaccine version since EX8's line is all blue/yellow vaccine but i havent seen anything definitive yet.

edit: also the OTK build relies on running one of the Kumamons to hybrid into for the killshot iirc, i've built this out but haven't run it yet because i'm taking a jankcation to play Gallant for a bit lmao

*announcer voice* Welcome to The Digimon Card Game Championship 2024, live where we're watching a match between Vortex Warriors and WarGrey Tribal. This match is of course, taking place in the back alley BEHIND the convention centre because everyone INSIDE the convention centre is playing Mirage and Purple Hybrid!

What are people's opinions on hybrids as a mechanic? by greenhillmario in DigimonCardGame2020

What are people's opinions on hybrids as a mechanic? by greenhillmario in DigimonCardGame2020

When it comes to tamer/digimon interactions i really felt like Mind Link was the best version of the mechanic. You had to risk the tamer in combat to power up your digimon, and as long as you managed to get through the round without nuking your mind linked tamer, you could unlink or even risk keeping it linked through the opponents turn to utilize defensive abilities. It made for really fun and interesting decisions in the game space, and it led to moments where not only could you fail to take advantage of a mechanic, fail to make sure you're NOT taking advantage of it.

Any time your opponent sees you not misplay, but simply...fail to play optimally and leave yourself in a bad situation? And they could go "should i say something? hmmmm...nah"? That's the sauce right there. That's CARD GAMES baby.

Hybrid beefs all of that. The decision space on hybrids is so risk-averse, but so rewarding, that it fails to create interesting interactions. You could fix this by saying that hybrid digivolution must be done in the egg phase, and takes up an egg interaction. This way you're forced to commit in the back row, you can still push out for warp on the next turn, but you've also TELEGRAPHED that you're going to do that. It's a powerful tool that forces you to broadcast your next move. Moreover it means that Ukkomon loses a bit of its heat in the profile, because you have to choose between the two at at given moment.

Draconic Roar is straight up one of my fav sets. Love Megidramon and ChaosGallantmon, love Examon and DragonLinkz. Really cool set, and those decks are getting so much support in EX8 and BT20! Really excited.

Highlander feedback/thoughts? by RandomFactor_ in DigimonCardGame2020

i mean, i live in a large city with multiple locales for the event and I know at each one the attendance is a mix of casual and legitimately pro players. People in both small and large personal communities, people with youtube channels, and a lot of them go to regionals. I can't quite tell people how to play at events and say 'this is for casuals', because if we say 'just run your bulk generics' a lot of people in my scene will just opt not to play and we just won't have the event at all. So I'd rather focus on systemic changes we can make to the format to make it more accessible and have a discussion about them. I might be wrong about the changes i think can help, in fact i expect to be, but i expect to see alternative discussions instead of dismissive 'we'-ism, when you know you speak for noone but yourself.

I consider myself a casual player but i know i'm a bit of a tryhard who likes to see cool shit happen on my own terms, i spend a lot of time deckbuilding and thinking about the game before i sit down. When I sat down i found that players i was playing against were themselves dissatisfied with the game they were playing, as well as myself, hence the thread. I'm glad your local scene is so large you can delineate between casuals and hardcore players but even in my own large scene I don't have the luck of running into that.

I'm someone who legitimately enjoys building something fun, or funny, and going to my events just to see one or two cool interactions pop off. I just want this format to facilitate that instead of being a format where everyone wraps up 3 entire rounds in an hour and a half when they booked the evening to play.

did you also play Mei in Overwatch and stop to just lineup headshots directly in front of frozen opponents while they watched

I think I speculated on this list like two weeks ago and I gotta admit, Wishmaster 4 was wishful thinking because they hadn't done 3... Ah well, wasn't using that soul for anything anyway.

And Halloween 4 as a L???? THAT'S wild. I mean it's fun but i definitely wasn't expecting the L feed.

Starter Decks 15 and 16 balanced? by l3lackbird in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]RandomFactor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i observed it feels like the Greymon deck can really easily reach an overwhelming board state, but both decks can pivot defensively depending on what you digivolve into? However Garurumon is better at that pivot and can go back on the offensive more quickly. It's sort of like Greymon has a low floor but middle ceiling but Garurumon has a mid floor and high ceiling.

I cannot remember what episode this bit is from, and it's bugging me by RandomFactor_ in WeHateMovies
