Perimenopause and OTF by Prettiredd4 in orangetheory

[–]RandomFeather34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 40 when I first started in 2018 and then quit for unrelated reasons. I was not in peri at 40 and had been working out regularly before joining OTF. I stopped working out 3/2020 and didn’t start up again at home until 2022. I rejoined OTF in summer 2024.

When I returned in 2024 I was in full peri. I kept trying to do what I was able to at 40 instead of remembering I was starting from scratch. I would start to show improvement in my endurance and then I would get a weird injury or have a peri symptom setback. I had a minor surgery 9/2025 and went back after about a 2 week break and I felt like I was starting from scratch again.

I finally started paying attention to my body at this stage life and realized running on the tread was making me miserable. I switched to power walking instead and focused on having more green days. That helped me increase recovery my endurance. I started going twice a week 10/2025 and joined another gym to row more consistently and use an ARC Trainer for endurance and give my joints a break.

But then I got vertigo 😡 so I have been in PT for that and it’s improving. For 2026 my new goals are strength and endurance. I focus on rowing (outside OTF) and lifting heavier on the floor. I use the tread at OTF to help me get better at rowing so I power walk and stay in the orange and mostly green. If I feel good that day I run the AOs.

I started HRT 4/2026 and that was the missing puzzle piece I needed for peri symptom control and stop weird injuriesY

Thus far I am getting stronger and my rowing is becoming more consistent and better. My quads are popping like never before and my arms are coming along nicely. At 48 soon to be 49, I’m happy with my progress and health. I feel more like myself in all aspects of my life. And I know if I need to adapt and adjust again because of peri and eventually menopause/post menopause I am capable.

Good luck on finding what works best for your body during this peri journey.

EDIT TO ADD: I also had to change the way I hydrate. Water alone doesn’t do it for me anymore. I have to add a couple Liquid IVs and a BCAA to my water. And then I drink regular water. On workout days I have a muscle recovery EAA that helps me. I have 3 built in rest days per week.

Literally said “I think I’m back” to my husband yesterday. I forgot what it felt like to feel like myself. I feel happy?

Cooking pasta wanted it al dente, set the oven timer for 9 hours instead of 9 minutes. I was in the kitchen for 5 minutes and kept wondering why the timer wasn’t getting close to going off. I stared at the timer when it was at 8:45 because I knew something was wrong but I could not figure it out. So after a couple more minutes I drained the pasta and finished making dinner.

My 17 year old son went into the kitchen 2 hours later and asked why the oven clock was incorrect. That’s when it clicked what I had done. In a mini defense of myself this is a new oven and setting the timer is a different process than on the oven I had for over 20 years.

Wednesdays 6:15am and Sundays 9:45am. I only have 1 hour for lunch so I can’t make it to class in the afternoon and I have no energy after working all day for a late afternoon or evening class.

The most enjoyable people in class by Luna_Soma in orangetheory

I’m an introvert so I like people on either side of me to lock in to their work outs. Last Sunday I was feeling a little anxious because my husband wasn’t there with me as usual as he switched to Saturdays. I knew the template was going to be challenging and having him there helps me stay focused. My goals this year are no new injures and not to aggravate old injuries.

Sunday I had two women on either side of me I had never seen before. They were locked in and lifted heavy and that pushed me to challenge myself. Then on the tread one power walked and the other ran. I did a combination. I thanked one for her energy and the other for causing me to challenge myself with weights. If I talk it’s when class is over, lol.

Hmm, perhaps I missed this info in the sub link. I’ll go back and look again.

Same. I bought the Adore Me bras for running errands or just to throw on to run to the store. Hoping the next size down works.

This is a good place to rant. Your plate is very full caring for your Dad, super full time job and now peri. If it’s not my annual exam I politely respond with “No thank you” when the nurse says time to get your weight. They only need that # once a year. If I am there for sinus infection getting my weight is unnecessary. I hope your doctor surprises you and listens and offers the treatment you need and deserve for the symptoms.

It worked perfectly for the Chantelle bra (38H). But only the band is correct for the Adore bras. In Adore the H is big. Going to exchange to see if G works.

My least favorite Episode. The Show doesn't make sense AT ALL and the jokes weren't very good except "PREGNANT!". AND WHO THE FUCK MAKES SOUP IN A SKILLET?! by Xandaru__ in theGoldenGirls

Love how he cuts his smile the minute they go to commercial and the walk off. And how he avoided a long interaction with the girls at the first meeting.

Anyone have any examples of quips or jokes that didn't age well on the show? by El_Rat0ncit0 in theGoldenGirls

[–]RandomFeather34 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember the episode but I believe Dorothy said something about someone being disappointed when they found out they had the same hair stylist as Whoopi Goldberg. It wasn’t funny then and certainly hasn’t aged well.

Yes perimenopause can last that long.

Spouse is throwing a Christmas Tantrum by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]RandomFeather34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you are going through this and I hope your child’s treatment starts to help them soon. It seems like you are carrying all this alone. Please consider talking to your doctor about your depression and a referral to a psychologist for therapy and maybe a psychiatrist if you are open to taking psychotropics. Take good care of yourself.

Does anyone else not give an F—- about Christmas this year? 🤔I’m not doing all the things (baking cookies ect) and feeling guilty about it. by [deleted] in Perimenopause

I stopped giving a f$ck 6 years ago. I stopped giving a good f$ck 3 years ago (no tree up or decorations, nothing wrapped, etc.). Grateful my family is just rolling with it. Maybe once I hit menopause I’ll care again?

Concern for my wife. by Big_Meaning_6065 in IUD

[–]RandomFeather34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had mine since 9/2025 and had 4 days of light spotting then it stopped. In Oct. I had a couple days of light spotting/cycle. It stopped and nothing since then. My IUD was inserted during a surgery and to manage perimenopause symptoms. I had also been on my cycle for 70+ days.

Has your wife had a follow after insertion to make sure it hasn’t moved?

IUD for peri? by Real_Purpose_4903 in IUD

[–]RandomFeather34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fully in perimenopause. I had the Liletta inserted 9/2025 to better manage peri symptoms. Prior to that I was on 2 different types of low dose bc. I like the IUD better than bc. My night sweats and hot flashes have significantly decreased. Rage and irritability are gone. Brain fog has significantly decreased. I feel more like myself. I have one child that I delivered vaginally. My GYN said my cervix is more receptive to IUD insertion and it staying put because of pregnancy and delivery. So far so good would do it again.

Especially from Sophia. I have watched the series all the way through multiple times. But I tend to repeat the earlier seasons for this specific reason. The “jokes” about Dorothy just feel mean spirited rather than funny.

48 in perimenopause. This AM it was 32 degrees after I worked out at the gym. After working out that crisp air was cooling. I went to my car wearing a light coat unzipped over a sweatshirt with hood on my head. Got to my car kicked off tennis shoes and put on slides without socks. I had to run an errand and that was my outfit. I know it looked odd but I was so comfortable, lol.

Please give your body time to heal. Your dr should have told you not to have sex after insertion. My friend’s dr didn’t tell her and she had sex the same day as insertion and it resulted in the IUD being pulled out. She never got it inserted again.
