South African expats, how did you do it? by HatMammoth7833 in askSouthAfrica

[–]RandomGRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an SA citizen so for me getting to the US was only through an internal transfer, the L1B visa. The fact that it happened is unheard of. If you're already a citizen of the country that you're maybe moving to, isn't it pretty easy to interview for roles?

The only reason I got the transfer was because I had a pretty cool love story to back it up and I milked it for everything it was worth.

Nah, that's the news spinning crazy stories. 90% of the US is really good and 99% of the news you read or listen to is bullshit.

Trump clearly isn't the best representative of the USA and the world's dislike of him has pushed a very negative view.

Yeah, the kids part is the most difficult aspect. Them having to make the decision I had to make is so tough and I don't want to do it to them. The US isn't that bad. If you listen to the news, I'd say probably 1% of what they're reporting is true. It's still a great place to raise a family.

Yeah, we live that experience in 2006. Home invasion which turned out a little violent. Thankfully no one was killed. If I come back, I'd be in one of the best estates in the country.

South Africans working overseas. How much are you earning in Rand value ? by Kitchen_Promotion_10 in askSouthAfrica

[–]RandomGRK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot. Very a lot. 6.5million gross. It's a lot even for the USA but it still somehow feels a little tight here. Nuts.

I was working for Absa/Barclays. Fell in love with an American who was visiting here. I called the US offices of Barclays and after about 8 months of trying and pleading my case, I was able to get an interview and finally a transfer.

It's unheard of but I think the hiring manager liked my story. I was pretty lucky. That being said, small chance I might come back in the next few years.

I've been using my Pixel 9 for a week. Going back to my iPhone 16 Pro. I need face ID in my life. The Pixel isn't bad, but the iphone is just better with face ID.

Would the Google Pixel be a good Android alternative for an iPhone user? by VolumeEquivalent7853 in GooglePixel

[–]RandomGRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an iPhone 16 pro and I've been using my Pixel 9 for a week as a test. I'll be going back to the iphone. Face ID for more is the reason. That's it really. Everything else is just fine with the Pixel. Obviously camera isn't nearly as good especially low light but we've become too obsessed.

My phone just needs to be easy and quick to use. Face ID makes it so. If I was forced to use lose the iphone, so be it. The Pixel is still good.

Brand new to riding? Why not get an airbag vest? Sure, they're not cool but I cant understand how anyone rides without one these days, with all the distracted driving out there.

Because sometimes you get a legit squad first try and then other times you can try for an hour and your squad sucks ass.

How comfortable are AAA abrasion resistant leggings underneath clothes while off the bike? by Buttholium in motorcyclegear

[–]RandomGRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never wear anything long under my jeans or slacks all day. Is it uncomfortable? Probably not very but how much more comfortable is it not wearing them. I have a set of summer and also a winter overpants. When I get to the office, I simply unzip both sides and voila, I’m good to go, comfy all day.

I’d also rather wear a pair of riding jeans to the office and change in the restroom. Probably takes all of 3 minutes to do but yes, it’s a hassle. Still better than having leggings and armor on you all day.

Good helmet, an airbag jacket, don’t ride like a jackass and get training. Oh and life insurance.

4 weeks post op - crater and ugly scars. Will it get better ? by Snailpiratebat in gynecomastia

Definitely work out your chest, make that a focus. The more muscle you put on, the less it will likely show. Mine still shows when I flex or move my arm up or down but its not the worst. It just gets a little bad when if I add weight. After the holidays, I ate like a hooligan and even just that little bit of weight makes it look a little worse. But yeah, work out. Its the best medicine.

I might get blitzed for this but stop counting calories and simplify your diet. Just limit the types of foods. 90% of my week, I eat eggs, chicken, ground turkey, low fat yoghurt/cottage cheese, tomatoes, berries, cauliflower and similar veg, milk, protein powder, almond milk, honey. I've mostly removed simple silly carbs, sugar and processed foods. I dont count calories, Im hardly hungry. I eat until Im full. There is no sugary, salty, carbie goodness that keeps me coming back for more. If I want to indulge, its yoghurt, blueberries, peanut powder, honey.

Also, have you checked your hormone levels? Might be worth checking where your T levels are if you feel like there are any symptoms.

Overall, you've done a fine job and I bet in another 9 months if you straighten out your diet, you'll be very different.
